Dylan Blue, my designer signature

Up-voted (for being at zero for literally no reason).

[–]WorshipNickOfferman 7 points8 points  (13 children)

For some reason, people downvote really weird stuff. This sub is far better than subs like r/food or r/politics. A couple years back, I posted something on r/food that said “OMG, I love (whatever type of food it was)!” Come back an hour later to see a -3. Never understood that.

[–]Stacee90whoever smelt it dealt it 🤔 7 points8 points  (6 children)

People are just petty and downvote shit they personally don’t like. Like seriously, you can’t just breeze on by - why ya gotta be like that? So I’m upvoting this whole mini- thread :)

[–]WorshipNickOfferman 3 points4 points  (5 children)

Have an up-diddle yourself!

Thanks- I too worship Nick Offerman

I just Googled Nick Offerman.

[–]WorshipNickOfferman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s kind of my hero.

Check out Parks and Rec- it’s hilarious

Was it a bowl of cereal mixed with water?

[–]WorshipNickOfferman 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Banana. Half peeled.

[–]BananaFactBot 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Did you know that bananas are naturally slightly radioactive (thanks to their potassium content)- but the level of radiation is not high enough to cause harm?

How many bananas do I need to create a Bruce Banner/Hulk scenario?

[–]Biggity_Biggity_BongThat's what I do. I stink and I know things. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not know that. Is that why bananas ripen other fruit placed near them?

[–]Wholenchilada 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Mancera Cedrat Boise. Don't get excited about much anymore. Been collecting since the 90s. But, the moment I laid nose on that fruity, leathery goodness I was hooked. Never fail to receive a compliment each time it's worn either.

[–]coffeewood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a decant of that recently. It's really good but it smells so similar to hanae mori edp to my nose. It resembles aventus but not so much as it lacks the smokey quality. I would have gotten a full bottle if not for hanae mori edp

[–]vergilius13415 8 points9 points  (5 children)

Edition Blanche

[–]tnoice26 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Waiting to find a good deal on this. Really don’t want to pay the gouge price..

[–]FusionGelSex Panther by Odeon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's Chanel. A blood sacrifice is required.

[–]StratonOakmonte[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Is it really different from allure sport?

[–]RZoroaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah they're entirely different. As if they are not even in the same family IMO.

[–]vergilius13415 3 points4 points  (0 children)

different in the sense that, allure homme sport, is like you wear it on a sunny day when you're sweaty. Focuses on the fresh vibe whilst eb focuses on just being a summer/srping citrus frag.

Mugler Angel a few years back. It was suggested to me after I took a perfume quiz of all things, so I ordered it. Well that perfume quiz was right, because that became my signature for the next 4 years.

[–]Stacee90whoever smelt it dealt it 🤔 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A classic

[–]StratonOakmonte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard really good things about this one I’m going to have to try a sample

[–]Anatolysdream♀ Perfume is my drug of choice. 6 points7 points  (0 children)

✅Pharrell Girl

✅Penhaligon's Ostara

✅ Penhaligon's Amaranthine

❎Berdoues Maasai Mara - pretty decent, just not for me

✅Elie Saab No. 2 Gardenia

❎A few classic men's eau de colognes

❎Pour Une Homme de Caron

All of these are good frags, the ❎ just not my style.

[–]2612013 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Kind of a blind buy, Dior Homme Parfum. I say kind of because I smelled homme and intense before so i knew the base.

Second was Gucci Guilty Absolute, it’s certainly not for the faint of heart but that’s what makes it so interesting and good for me. Absolute monster of booze, wood and leather. I heard it was being discontinued and bought a second bottle, for cheap. It wasn’t a popular fragrance in todays market.

Kryptomint by Mugler was a really good cheap blind buy too.

[–]ColeWhiskeyWorld 1 point2 points  (2 children)

What kind of booze do you get from Guilty Absolute? Is it the female version you're referring to?

[–]2612013 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Whisky. It has a dry medicinal and peppery tone at first that you get in the nose of a high peated whisky like Talisker. Although, it isn’t as smokey as that. I think some take this as a diesel like smell. I think if you like Dior Fahrenheit Parfum and don’t think that smells like petrol, you’d probably like it.

But after that dies down some this is dry as a bone wood and wet leather beast. When I smell it I don’t think leather jacket like ombre leather has been described I feel more spaghetti western. Dry harsh trees and environment, leather clothes, horse and still half drunk on whisky from a nearby saloon. :)

I would not recommend a blind buy at all, its brilliant but it certainly will polarize. The leather in this is spectacular but it carries challenging pieces along with it.

Oh, and male version :)

Review that made me pull the trigger (I trust his nose, we seem to have similar tastes): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKytuESgulI

[–]Hardz10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great description. It’s actually one of my favourites in my collection. Beast performance. And oh so masculine!

[–]feathersmcgraw322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep hearing rumors here that GGA is being discontinued, but have seen no evidence to support that. It’s still available everywhere including from Gucci.

I have grown to really like it so I’m really hoping those rumors aren’t true.

[–]Absak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The original Encre Noire. Most of my stuff is blind bought though.

[–]vaguereferenceto 4 points5 points  (1 child)

L’Artisan’s Safran Troublant. Saw a good sale, read a bunch of reviews, turned out perfect.

[–]Iris_Mobile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooo I love this one.

[–]ThePhattestOne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

PDM Herod and Pure Malt

[–]Bosquerella 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought Eau de Gaga off of Amazon after hearing so many people around here speak highly of it and it did not disappoint.

I also bought Novocain by Tokyo Milk when it came out, off of the description alone. Frankincense, Thai peppers, and orchids sounded so intriguing.

[–]PyriteBear 4 points5 points  (4 children)

One of my favorite blind buys was Valentino Oumo Intense. Never understood iris/oris before that, now I'm hooked.

[–]StratonOakmonte[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Man this gets so many good reviews as a date fragrance it’s definitely on my list to try

[–]PyriteBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little formal for most of my dates but girls do like it. I also have the original formulation which is an absolute beast, the new one might be a little better if you don't want to choke someone out in close quarters.

[–]DeathScytheExia 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm interested in trying this one but I don't really like the bottle haha

[–]PyriteBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's funny, it's one of my favorite bottles. It looks like I could put it on the end of a chain and swing it like a mace, so medieval

[–]bloodyshowercap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

La Nuit

[–]tnoice26 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I want to say that probably 50% of my collection of 40 bottles are blind buys but my most favorite ones are:

Boss Bottled Oud Prada L’Homme Thierry Mugler Kryptomint

I think all of these are 10/10s just wish the Boss projected more..

[–]StratonOakmonte[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I’ve been really wanting to try krypto mint and ultra zest for a summer daytime fragrance

[–]DeathScytheExia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kryptomint is really nice. Check it out fall/ winter is the time for it

[–]christabela_andreoli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Guerlain L'Heure Bleue, Narciso rodriguez Poudree, JHAG Citizen Queen, Pink Sugar, Guerlain Instant Magic.

[–]coffeels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought versace eros when it was first released only because i liked the bottle- it did not disappoint

[–]Nomiss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YSL nuit parfum or John Varvatos dark rebel.

Plenty of my collection was blind buy.

[–]DiorFahrenheit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dior Homme Parfum

[–]lolsail 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I've seen the term blind buy being thrown around alot -what does it mean exactly?

[–]WorshipNickOfferman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s when you buy without smelling the fragrance.

[–]BombayAndBeer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Indigo by Nest - it was part of a rollerball trio pack and I was really interested in Midnight Fleur. I almost only wear Indigo now (and have repurchased several times) and hardly where Midnight Fleur.

YSL Opium - there were a lot of things in the description that I generally like, but was really scared of it’s power. I like it a lot, but it’s definitely a little older (there’s a powder-y note that ages it for me) than I typically wear, but it’s still wearable. It’s still lovely and floral and has a beautiful citrus note.

Atelier Cologne - Azure Collection - Mandarine Glaciale- this is one of my favorites and one of my least favorites. It smells overwhelmingly of oranges. Like the bitter oil from the rind on your palm after you’ve peeled an orange and like you’d crushed the orange through your fist after. There’s something kind of bright and juicy in the beginning, but also just heavy and bitter. I got it as one of those Sephora reward things (where you spend your points) several years ago - it’s a little (actually quite large) sample. I don’t think I’ve ever actually worn it outside. It’s so incredibly overwhelming, but it also smells so, so, so good. It doesn’t exactly linger, but there’s like a little hint that reminds you that it was there the next day. I feel like if my partner wore this, I wouldn’t have any problems with it, but the initial burst before the dry down is just a little too much for me.

Edit: wear/where

Edit 2: I realized that the Nest items came as part of a Trio with Citrine. Not as part of a sampler pack like the Sephora Favorites Fragrance thing.

Mont blanc individuel

[–]-herefishyfishy- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I bought a bottle back in July I had a little buyer's remorse. Now that the temps are below 90 I can't get enough of it.

[–]-herefishyfishy- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Versace Pour Homme

[–]schnat-cat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lalique Hommage a l'homme has definitely been my best--it's just exactly what I had been looking for before I realized what that may be.

[–]mynameisdbabz 3 points4 points  (8 children)

JPG le male popeye , so goo so fresh and great performance , like 12-24 hours on my shirts.

Versace dylan blue, great blue frag

Bvlgari aqva amara, not at first but it grew on me over time , and has beast mode performance

[–]PyriteBear 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Amara is nuts. Such a depth of character for an aquatic with that amber backbone.

[–]civiltiger 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Can Amara be worn in the fall on a chilly day?

[–]PyriteBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried it but imo the actual scent is suited to it, I'm just uncertain about it's projection and sillage.

[–]coffeewood 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I bought the superman version and had to get another just for backup as I liked the bottle. Such a fresh powdery scent that I spray all the time when I'm home

[–]DeathScytheExia 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Superman version?

[–]coffeewood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Le male eau fraiche superman

[–]StratonOakmonte[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I blind purchased Aqva Amara as well!! Definitely worth it. It’s super unique and I’ve had multiple people comment that they like it + it’s a cheapie

[–]DeathandblackmetalKing Kouros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite as cheapie as much as before though from what I've seen. It's been discontinued.

[–]huntsvillian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think to some extent they were blind buys that I was lucky enough to really resonate with. My "best", which to me means the ones I've been most satisfied with are probably....

  • Areej le Dore - Ottoman Empire and Siberian Musk
  • Knize Ten
  • YSL - Rive Gauche

[–]BonoboCooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Molecule 01 for me

[–]Jedidja232 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Dior homme Eau is a fantastic fragrance. Absolute compliment machine too.

Honourable mention to Dior Homme Cologne for the summer as well. That entire line of fragrance pretty much just works.

[–]B3njaminjames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dior homme colonge is my usual summer go to. New bottle for me next year I think.

[–]youngod-_z7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

VERSACE EROS

[–]tankrank 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Best: Guerlain l'homme ideal EDP

Worst (for me): Terre D' Hermés EDT

[–]MostlyLurkingMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perceptual differences are a crazy thing! Terre d’Hermes EdT is among my favorite bottles, and l’Homme Ideal EdP is one of my most disliked samples

[–]DeathandblackmetalKing Kouros 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kouros. Never tried it before becoming a frag head that I'm aware of, although potentially smelled it on family when I was growing up years before then. (Bonus: Fahrenheit (similar as above), Leather Oud, Oud Ispahan, etc.)

[–]Dark-XWarm Spicy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In no particular order:

[–]Stacee90whoever smelt it dealt it 🤔 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lancôme Oud Ambroisie - I still can’t believe I did that but I guess I knew I could return it if I really didn’t like it, but I love it.

[–]looch88 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Pasha de Cartier turned out to be my signature scent for years after I blind bought it.

[–]87bonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my oldest and dearest friends wears Pasha and I adore it

[–]Cressio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ultra male, my favorite fragrance hands down. (also all of my other fragrances LOL, whoops)

[–]Biggity_Biggity_BongThat's what I do. I stink and I know things. 2 points3 points  (0 children)

M. Micallef Dream de Rachel Elbaz. Total surprise blind buy gift from my wife and it's very beautiful.

[–]DeathScytheExia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I blind bought pure malt when it came back into production. At first I didn't like it, but my bottle smelled like plastic while the ones at my local store smelled pretty dang nice. It's weird considering I ordered directly from muggler's site.

[–]MajorSnowMilk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guerlain L’homme Ideal EDP for me

[–]matiasmakesbeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rasasi Hawas and CH Chic for Men

[–]sarepie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Byredo's Bal D'Afrique. It became my new favourite.

[–]thedoors55 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Aventus lol. I actually sampled GIT at a boutique and fell in love with it. Just to come back later in the day and randomly buy Aventus lol

[–]StratonOakmonte[S] 2 points3 points  (5 children)

I blind purchased CDNIM as an Aventus clone and I really don’t like it. Just going to purchase the real thing

[–]WorshipNickOfferman 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I own CDNIM and my brother owns Aventus. I personally prefer the CDNIM. So does he.

[–]StratonOakmonte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine smells like pine

[–]thedoors55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, sample Aventus before buying it. Even if I really appreciate Aventus, it was a dumb move to blind buy such an expensive fragrance..

[–]LumpyGrandpa 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If you don't like the dry down of CDNIM don't get Aventus. They are pretty much the same

[–]StratonOakmonte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I got a bad batch of CDNIM or something because I have a sample of aventus from Nordstrom’s that is completely different and I love it.

[–]UnwantedCreampie69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Karli roses is such a babe..

[–]Currycell92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Versace eros but this was in 2015.

[–]psawjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slumberhouse Jeke. Wow what a fragrance!

[–]DiorFahrenheit 0 points1 point  (2 children)

is your bottle of Pure Malt a new bottle?

I read that the newer formulations aren’t as good.

[–]StratonOakmonte[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yea I bought it off amazon and whatever formulation I have is amazing. I sprayed the top of my hand last night around 6pm, it’s 9am here and I can still smell it a little bit

[–]DiorFahrenheit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s great, you did well 🙂

[–]age-of-alejandrodoge of the layering republic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lalique equus pour homme, but I'm hoping that the bottle of Alkemia's VAMP (opium incense, black amber, black musk, labdanum) will replace it!

[–]Katsitsanoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Encre Noire. Dame Dark Horse, Minotaure
