WHO: Dogbone / Rainbow

WHERE: https://inkbunny.net/DogBoneArtWork

WHAT:Livestream Sketch commission for 35 bucks

WHEN: from beginning to mid october to current.  awaiting any further communication

PROOF: here's a ss of my payment to her https://www.dropbox.com/s/b3pkgah2in7yrwe/Fullscreen%20capture%2012202013%2064932%20PM.jpg on the 4th

Hey there everyone this is my first and hopefully only post I have to make here.  I commissioned Dogbone over on inkbunny back in the beginning / middle of october when she was doing some in stream sketch comms.  I've been boned over by artists in the past who've just taken my money and never delivered product so I figured a stream where I watch them make the art was a safe bet.  everything seemed fine.  I watched the stream and when the time came I watched her draw my character in a pin up feral pose and then I submitted my payment to her paypal.  afterwhich we exchanged thank you's and went our separate ways as I began to wait for her to send it to me in email / upload it to her gallery for viewing / downloading.  2 weeks passed and several of her submissions came and went and I never heard or saw anything about my picture.  So I sent her a note on IB. asking what was up.

There are three links.  I just went to the latest communication I had and compiled the screen shots together.
1- https://www.dropbox.com/s/ppb4adavx34w8rz/Screenshot%202013-12-20%2017.54.30.png
2- https://www.dropbox.com/s/tpvjwxcepabg6io/Screenshot%202013-12-20%2017.54.55.png

So at first it seemed as if everything was fine and that she just skipped over my image.  which is fine I've been on the fault end of forgetting something before no harm no foul.  However not hearing anything from her from the 22nd where she said she'd post it to then on the 4th saying she couldn't find it after I had to pretty much harass her to respond back to me I was a bit miffed but still understanding that mistakes happen and she was willing to refund me so though I didn't like how it played out at least I would be refunded and could move on from there.  After giving her my paypal info on the 4th I awaited seeing some notification in email or on paypal about the refund however it never came.  So I sent another quick note as a reminder and then received her response back at that time that she was in a financial strain and would refund me once she got some commissions back under her belt.  Again trying to be understanding I responded accordingly.

It has now been well over a month since the last time she even bothered to note me back and I've seen plenty of commissions flow through from live streams to ych's, over 50 submissions since my last hearing from her on the 9th of november, and though I've sent note after note she continues to ignore me.  I've been nothing but understanding in this and yet still have no commission or refund.

So I submit this warning here, it seems that she's doing work which is great for those who receive it but this is but a complain from the one whom seems to be getting tossed through the ringer.

I hope you get your money. Most of the artists I have watched stream art, post the art during stream right after they finish it before starting the next one. Although most of them were not taking the commissions during the stream.

I wish her attitude was as good as her art. I personally stopped watching her on IB when she posted a journal saying that she was trying to get back on FA and that when she did she would leave IB because there are not enough commissioners.
I don't want to support someone who only sees money when she looks at her fans.

Also another artist who spends the money before delivering the product, it seems to be spreading.

I don't mind someone who sees a potential client base in their fans, especially when that money may be the only source of income. Her poor ethic towards her existing clients is what bothers me.

She didn't choose to leave FA directly, but was forced to leave due to her own bad practices. :/ But I think most people have heard that by now. I think they may let her come back when she actually gets around to fulfilling her obligations with clients.

Honestly, it's completely understandable. The majority of commissioners are on FA (or IB AND FA). That, and keeping up two galleries, having to use both for communication (I don't think IB allows turning off notes...?) etc can be troublesome for ANYONE.

Nobody should really be expecting an artist that is trying to make an income have a loyalty to a website. They have to go where the customers are, and for the most part the answer to that IS FA. While the furry fandom market may be a little more "friendly" than most, that doesn't mean that the artists working within it aren't business people and have to focus on what supports their business most.

Granted, the artist in question has a bad reputation otherwise, but in general, asking any artist to have a loyalty to a website because they got a few commissions through it as opposed to a more prominent site where they can make more doesn't make sense. :x

Inkbunny does not currently offer a way to turn off notes. You can however have a copy of them forwarded to you via email.

Artists spending money before they finish the work, then not having said money if customer asks for a refund... :T

Legally it's not the artist's money until said work is completed. Is she still ignoring you? Might have to get Paypal involved if you've exhausted all of your options.

Technically she did finish the work. I'm just baffled as to how someone loses a recent commission file.

At a guess: middle of a stream, distracted, they thought they saved it somewhere but either didn't or they didn't put it where they thought. Then, a few days later they come back and it's not there.

I must be lucky because my stream regulars have me save every ten minutes. My chat will be barraged with "have you saved?"
I've never lost a commission so its definitely a foreign thing to me.

Yup. Or saved over it. It happens.

I actually did this with a full comic. I have no idea where it went. the other pages are there, it's not in my trash, I've searched my comp, dropbox, and flash drives, just gone 'n' I'll have to redraw it.

Yeah, that practice bothers me. I never transfer the money to my bank account until the picture has been completed and uploaded.

Agreed! I hope that spending before earning isn't as common as it looks to be. :C

I'd just stop bothering contacting her and get your money back -- hope you still can thru paypal

Seconding everyone else. I'd definitely just try to get your money back, at this point, even if you have to file a complaint with PayPal.

As an aside, her real name is still showing in the subject line. The only reason I mention it is that you have it blocked out in the other fields.

Dogbone... banned from FA and off to IB she goes to rip off more people.

I don't care if you watched it completed in stream, not giving you a hard copy of your work is theft and if she can't re-do the image she needs to give you your money back.

Contact paypal.

I agree with you completely, Mazz. :/

That's a shame, she does not have a good track record with clientele. It's unfortunate, because I think she does beautiful art when she puts her mind to it.

Anyway, on the topic of getting money back, it is never too late to issue a chargeback to paypal. They have that 45 day limit, but you can still go ahead and send them an email or contact them. I had an issue where it'd been 60 days and I did that, got all my money back within the week. Despite the issues people have with paypal, they are normally really good from the commissioner's side of things. I would send her a message and say you're giving her another day or something, and after that (if you haven't already) email/message paypal with the chargeback. It's disgusting when artists try to swindle money from people, best of luck and keep us updated :(

I had a run in with her in 2009...I did a trade with her, did my part and never saw her half. I believe I tried to get into contact with her when she was still on DA and even on FA and never got a response. It's disappointing to see that she still thinks the whole 'not responding' thing is something that works well.

I agree with the above on the charge back. Maybe that will warrant some kind of response. If she isn't willing to act it may be time to take the situation into your own hands while you still can...

My friend Aidan has worked with her before on a commission and when he informed her huskies have curved tails and he asked her to correct it, she got a huge attitude and claimed she couldn't do it (digital images.. not hard to change the curvature of a tail). She ended up blocking both of our accounts on FA.

As much hassle as it is, I'd try and get paypal involved at this point. There's really an extremely low chance that you'll ever get the money or art from her directly. Two people just paid her for $20 icons, so I don't think her not having the money is the problem here. You only need to check the previous AB posts, or even the encyclopedia dramatica SS to confirm that she lacks integrity.
