Last week, "free speech" and alt-right favorite social network @getongab banned lolicon images being posted to its platform and @Discordapp has recently done the same (while also banning a MAP peer support forum that didn't even permit lolicon images). https://www.kitguru.net/gaming/damien-cox/discord-punishes-popular-server-for-offensive-images-sparking-debate-on-censorship/ … 2/8

Indignant fans are frequently heard denying that they write or consume lolicon works because they have any sexual attraction towards actual children or support the abuse of actual children, and the hashtag
#MangaIsNotACrime is starting to trend again. https://twitter.com/Lolicon_News/status/1053769818485260288 … 3/8Show this thread -
Artists are often heard saying exactly the same thing; that for them, safely exploring taboos through edgy art and fiction is an act of artistic expression that is fully compatible with the desire to protect actual children from sexual abuse. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FrWDuKWtU4 … 4/8

But we don't even have to look as far afield as Japan for similar controversies about animated representations of underage sexuality. There is also a campaign to ban the Netflix cartoon
@bigmouth, which takes a frank and comic look at puberty. https://twitter.com/SpaceForceCMNDR/status/1049844995740467200 … 5/8Show this thread -
We did a small-scale anonymous survey of those who own young-looking sex dolls, and found that they are mainly attracted to the dolls' "cuteness," but that even among those who also found them sexual, most wouldn't feel the same about actual minors. More research is needed. 6/8pic.twitter.com/0xuOiV8ZTQ

But it's fair to say that at least some people do feel turned on by representations of underage sexuality in art and fiction. Does that mean that this art should be censored? On civil libertarian grounds, our answer is a very strong NO; read why. https://prost.asia/blog/defending-lolita-from-censorship/ … 7/8

Censorship doesn't make sense as child protection policy either. The evidence that we have—though again, more is needed—points towards the possibility that some people use such art to safely channel their unwanted feelings, rather than to inflame them. http://cphpost.dk/news/national/report-cartoon-paedophilia-harmless.html … 8/8
