My article in on the Saudi admission of Khashoggi’s killing. The official narrative will resonate differently inside & outside of the kingdom. ⁦⁩

As expected, (the top aide supposedly dismissed over Jamal’s murder) has a new job. Nobody believed he was truly out. His new job involves cybersecurity, the same role he was notorious for, ‘lord of the flies’ (electronic flies = bots/trolls).

Notice that Saudi official’s statements so far (the statement, the standing order & the latest above 👆) all aim to say the team mishandled the situation. That’s short of “rogue killers”, since they acted according to standing order & high-level instructions, but they messed up.

Per the official: The plan went badly quickly. The team didn’t stick to the plan & thought they could rush him there. Jamal shouted at them & a fight ensued. He died in the fight. No torture or chopping. His body was wrapped in a carpet & handed to a local cooperator.
