I wrote this about Owen Jones & Paul Mason, and how they are reflective of broader, systemic problems with a UK 'Left' that is neither anti-imperialist nor anti-capitalist (but is strongly anti-communist).

Not only are the UK public kept ignorant of the UK's direct role in the war on Yemen. Popular historians glorify the RAF on television programmes as it facilitates ongoing war crimes against Yemeni civilians.

No wonder US media professionals are treating Khashoggi as the Red Line revealing KSA barbarism. He argued it’s 'time for the [US] to... reassert its traditional authority in the region' and that 'the United States should propose partition in Syria.'

Riedel made this statement in 2016. Since then, the humanitarian crisis in Yemen has gotten significantly more dire, and it is the arms/training/intelligence/logistical support/diplomatic cover of the US and UK that has directly facilitated it all.

"Saudi-led" is a misnomer regarding Yemen. I know it's very easy to use phrases so commonly repeated without meaning to, but please stop using it if you're serious about opposing the war. It couldn't have happened & could not continue with the US & UK, so it cannot be "Saudi-led"

If anything wouldn’t an understanding of past and ongoing imperialism highlight that indigenous peoples of MENA do have agency because when they attempt to excercise it, the external hegemonic power is desperate to undermine their autonomy?

A few people have responded to this tweet as if I’m saying this is why he was killed (or even justifying it) - that is a complete misreading of my point, he was killed in spite of those sectarian opinions, not because of them.
