Boozy I hear you. and speaking as someone who is a bit more libertarian ( i refuse to use the word conservative) I'll say I have been really troubled by this wierd alt-right populist (nazi) movement.

and I have genuine anxiety about people confusing me with this group that really in my mind are just looking to piss people off. Im afraid I will somehow be associated with them

Then publicly disavow them. Honestly, disavow them publicly and repeatedly. Sure, some folks will say "YOU'RE CONSERVATIVE THEREFORE" still. Many others will nod at you drawing the line and saying "Those assholes do not represent me at fucking all."

I feel like you may be intentionally missing the point of this. Namely that you appear to want people to assume good intent of everyone but to the same extent insist you have no responsibility to disown the groups that cause people to not assume positive intent.

Tbh I saw alot of this coming. I tried warning and "hey ...probably shouldn't demean other people and treat them like garbage." BUT NOOOO! They chose to mobilize with the most extremist elements because with a little fear they would donate the most $ and time

I tried sending emails..calls. my representatives party leadership. The nra.. Hey this extremist stuff is wrong and it pushes people away. We shouldn't associate with these extremist views and beliefs. But no one listened. So as they moved off the beaten path they left me behind
