Its not oddly specific at all. They're depriving their inmates of emotional, physical, and romantic support of the people they love because they want them broken down psychologically so they re-offend when they get out and get sent back so the prison can make more off them.
To be fair, I think "no hugging" (or "no physical contact", to put it more professionally) would do a better job of that, so I think it's more about stopping contraband rather than hurting inmates, as Nate indicated earlier
Then why strip search inmates? If they're already going to be fingered everywhere why not let two people who love eachother have a moment? The searches before and after alone make anything during the meeting redundant unless the searches are done just to fuck with the inmate.
*sigh I'd say valid point but remember there was a record # of shivs found in her unit once...You'd be surprised what a brief moment and random hiding places can conceal in....
