Yes, it's ridiculous. But this isn't just the WashPost. This is John Brennan, former director of the CIA and former station chief in Riyadh. You would expect him, while opposing the assassination of a political opponent, to be truthful about what that opponent represented.

Mbs was jealous of Khashoggi’s literary talent, as expressed in his moving obituary for Osama bin Laden | "Khashoggi was widely known and respected...for his literary talent, political acumen and principled opposition"

If you've been seeing a lot about what President Trump said about the Civil War, and Robert E. Lee, and Ulysses S. Grant, you might not have seen the entire passage. So here it is:

I’m older than you, so I have a broader perspective. I’m old enough to remember when an American president was a spectator to a genocide in Syria. Meanwhile, his UN ambassador issued lachrymose tweets.

When the mainstream press gets schmaltzy religious, you know it's talking about a lefty, not an Evangelical or a devout Catholic.

You tell 'em! Who needs stability in the Gulf, the single largest repository of proven oil reserves in the world. If there's one thing King Barack the Wise taught us, it's that we can just pivot to Asia and forget about the Middle East. Nothing bad will happen to us.

It's an "apparent death" but it's also "an atrocity." Wouldn't a wise former head of CIA say, "Let's get the facts before we go off half-cocked?" But this is Moe. His goal is to bash Trump, not safeguard the national interest. Curly & Larry were unavailable for comment.

every lurid detail from the Turkish press as if it's hard fact. It's striking how all adult supervision in American newsrooms has been lost in recent years. Again, I don't claim any special insight into what happened to Khashoggi. But I know how to read with a critical eye.

Khashoggi affair explains everything, but the timing is, let's just say, interesting. 5) It is notable that some of the people who, especially on anything related to Syria, have screamed for years that the Turks cannot be trusted are the same ones who are now running with

the Turks released Pastor Brunson in the midst of this storm about Khashoggi. It is a very smart way to try to pull the US in the direction of Turkey and Qatar and away from KSA. I know the negotiations over Brunson have long been in the works, so I'm not saying that the

The Khashoggi affair, that is to say, is working to the advantage of the Turks against the Saudis at this moment, a fact that surely is not lost on Erdogan's intel agents and friendly press as they pass on lurid details of Khashoggi's demise. I suspect it is no accident that

They might be telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. That has happened in the past. But they also might be lying. That has also happened in the past. 4) The one thing that I do know for sure is that Turkey and Qatar are at odds with KSA.

A few simple facts about the Khashoggi affair. 1) By now it looks increasingly likely that Khashoggi is no longer alive, and it is also likely that Saudi intel agents were involved in his death. But: 2) We don't know much by way of hard fact. Was he tortured & killed?
