Some people will assume that, if you should hold any opinion that differs from their own, that you're only doing it to troll them, not realizing that people can have different views on things through the lens of their life and experiences. Those people are dicks.
Completely agree! People are allowed to not agree with something. You don't have to willingly accept everything just because people yell at you to do so. fuck those guys.
Heh, if only everyone else saw it that way. In today's world not agreeing = small-minded/troll/hater, pick your scape-goat-name, that people give you whenever you don't see eye to eye with 'em, and they're bitter about it. :P
By the way, I never fully expressed how grateful I am for the creation of this group. It makes me realize that there are some people around that have some common sense still... think you've done that for a lot of people.
I think the main problem is the fact that 99% of people mix tolerance with total acceptance. The fact I let something "be" next to me, doesn't mean I want to fully indulge myself into it.
Another main problem is that the people who actually genuinely are hateful assholes love to say they're just "voicing their disagreement", ruining the image of the innocent nonconformists.
Agreed completely. With some people, you can reply twelve octaves less angry than they are, and, just for "disagreeing", they will go raving mad and spew every buzzword they know in your face.
On MSN and several Yahoo News comments sections, it's been to the point where trying to disprove Obama of being a "Muslim Communist" gets you deemed a "Marxist multi-culturalist" in a heartbeat.
Both sides have done a lot of stupid stuff, but... lashing out at people who aren't really all that politically charged is an awfully scummy thing to do, "revenge" or not. It's easier than attacking REAL hug-boxes I guess (AKA, "echo chambers"), which both sides certainly have.
Lastly (not at you, just thoughts), the furry community probably has a higher rate of "tolerance" than most since it has proportionately more gays, bi, and trans. This seems to be from being more likely to have a "fuck it" attitude towards things you might not exactly admit to the whole world if you aren't straight (at least, somewhat publicly). It seems to be a somewhat prevalent viewpoint that you ought to be tolerant of things you don't like when the whole "furry" thing is something that non-furs have kinda had to tolerate themselves. In particular, quite a few have seen past the rumors that furs actually want to have sex with real animals, so, to be unable to see past the unfair stereotypes of other groups could be construed as a bit hypocritical or in-compassionate.
Although, even if one has the right to voice their opinion, then the others have a right to question their opinion or not respect it (accepting and respecting are two different things).
Actually I'm a paraplegic-demi-pansexual-blind-midget-trans-pony-kin.
Stop judging me, I need to make myself feel special by rising myself up the "progressive stack".
Steven Universe is my religion, anyone not agreeing with me is absolutely HITLER.
If someone has a bogus religion ie Stephen Universe or Islam then of course they are not going to be treated well depending on who they are and weather or not they have had run ins with the police or the feds or are on no fly lists
