    The underlying sentiment shared by both Erdoğan and Trump is that they cannot imagine anyone opposing them or their policies without having sinister ulterior motives.

    As a Turkey observer I never thought I’d see so many parallels of democratic backsliding in the US. The “paid protesters” narrative is typically conspiratorial and sad, but nevertheless powerfully resonant with those who want to believe it.

    Chief Editor of Yeni Yaşam Newspaper, Çağdaş Kaplan got detained in Istanbul late on Saturday night for "propagating terrorism". Kaplan was taken to Istanbul's Çağlayan Courthouse and he has been released after giving his testimony to prosecutor.
