    What, exactly, is the lesson? What's the damage assessment from the missile strike. The real lesson is just that Tehran wants to show it can fire ballistic missiles wherever it wants. And remember what they wrote on the missiles, that's the real "lesson" they wanted to show

    It was a real "wizard of oz" moment for the Iraqis as the curtain was pulled back to reveal some very unimpressive Russians that did not stack up to Iraqi memories of the old Soviet intel/military machine. Meanwhile support was straight outa a SciFi war film, true power.

    I was in Baghdad when this turned up in 2015. A scary moment but it passed quickly. It was soon clear that Russia could not be bothered to send anyone capable, and that Iran favored its bilat ties to militias over a formal multilateral mechanism. had no competition
