Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court was approved on an 11-10 party-line vote Friday in the Senate Judiciary Committee. Yet his confirmation is not assured.
Sen. Jeff Flake, Republican of Arizona, has demanded and gotten as the price of his vote on the floor, a weeklong delay. And the GOP Senate has agreed to Democrat demands for a new FBI investigation of all credible charges of sexual abuse against the judge.
Astonishing. With a quarter century in public service, Kavanaugh has undergone six FBI field investigations. They turned up nothing like the charges of sexual misconduct leveled against him these last two weeks.
In his 30 hours of public testimony before the judiciary committee prior to Thursday, no senator had raised an issue of a sexual misconduct.
But if Brett Kavanaugh is elevated to the Supreme Court, it will be because, in his final appearance, he tore up the script assigned to him. He set aside his judicial demeanor to fight for his good name with the passion and righteous rage of the innocent and good man he believes himself to be.
He turned an inquisition into his character and conduct as a teenager into a blazing indictment of the Democratic minority for what they were doing to his reputation and his family.
Rather than play the role of penitent, Kavanaugh did what Clarence Thomas did 30 years before. He attacked the character, conduct and motives of his Democratic accusers.
And did the judge not speak the truth? With few exceptions, all four dozen Senate Democrats are determined to defeat him, even if that requires them to destroy him.
They rejected Brett Kavanaugh the day he was nominated.
Why? Because the judge is a conservative and a Catholic, hence an unreliable vote to sustain Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision that discovered hidden in the Constitution a woman’s right to abort her unborn child.
The verdict on the judge came down in the hearts and minds of his enemies the moment that he was named. They had him convicted, before they met him. And once his fate was decided, the only remaining issues were where to find the dirt to bury him with, and how to make it look like they had given Kavanaugh a fair hearing.
Contrast how Kavanaugh, who has served his country with distinction for decades, was treated Thursday, and how Dr. Christine Blasey Ford was treated.
Ford was greeted with courtly courtesy by Chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley. No Republican senator asked her a question. Rachel Mitchell, a prosecutor of sex crimes brought in from Arizona, quizzed her as though she were a 15-year-old girl who had just been attacked, not a 51-year-old woman whose uncorroborated accusations were designed not only to defeat a Supreme Court nomination but to destroy the career, family and future of a federal judge.
After each five-minutes of polite questioning by Mitchell, Democratic senators took turns lauding Ford’s courage, bravery and heroism in agreeing to appear.
Ford’s testimony as to what she says happened in 1982 did seem credible and compelling. Yet, to allow her accusation of attempted rape to stand without tough and thorough cross-examination, given the stakes involved, was a dereliction of Senate duty.
Consider. Ford does not recall how she got to the party where the alleged assault took place. She does not know where the party was held. She does now recall how she got home.
None of the other four she said were at the party recall being there. Her best friend, whom she apparently left behind as the lone woman in a house with a pair of drunken rapists, does not recall any such party. Nor does she recall ever having met Kavanaugh.
Consider the other charges leveled against Kavanaugh in the last two weeks: Exposing himself in the face of a freshman girl in a dorm at Yale. Participating in a series of at least 10 parties in high school where planned gang rapes of drunken and drugged women were a regular feature, with the boys lining up outside bedrooms.
In six FBI background investigations of Kavanaugh, interviewing countless friends and contemporaries from high school days, none of this wild and criminal misconduct of the early ’80s was mentioned.
“This is the most unethical sham since I’ve been in politics,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham, “I hope that the American people will see through this charade.”
They had best do so. For what is being done to Kavanaugh is, if Democrats take control of Congress in November, a harbinger of what is to come. The assault on Kavanaugh, converting a man known for his integrity into a youthful Jack the Ripper in 10 days, is the playbook for what is planned for Trump.
The Kavanaugh lynching is a dress rehearsal for the impeachment of Donald Trump. And the best way to fight impeachment is the way the judge fought Thursday.
In defending yourself, go after your malevolent accusers as well.

“Ford’s testimony as to what she says happened in 1982 did seem credible and compelling….She does not know where the party was held…None of the other four she said were at the party recall being there”
What is “credible” about that? Most alien abduction claims have more details, which raises the question of whether Kavanaugh can prove he is not from another planet.
Good article. Here is my less than intellectual take on things. Tell me if I’ve got this right.
A 17 year old high school boy gets drunk with his friends at a party where one girl, age 15, is in attendance. He makes the first few moves in a standard-issue attempt to give her the business but she escapes into a bathroom and then makes her way home. She doesn’t even tell her parents, because, at the time, she was smart enough to know she’d get royal hell for being at an all-boys, unsupervised, pissup. No bruises, no injuries.
30 years later, she recalls all these things that happened at the party (“recovered memories”) but takes no particular action. 6 years after that, she does her “civic duty” by informing the whole world her sordid story, these events having ruined her life even unto this day, yea, verily I say unto you. Amerikwa goes ape shit, an utter shitstorm ensues.
Er…that’s it. Or maybe not. One, maybe two, impeachment attempts will ensure. You can bet on it.
Aren’t you a man, Pat Buchannan?
Indeed, aren’t you a white! man? (with some German ancestry?!)
In fact, aren’t you a white, Republican!, conservative!, practicing Catholic!! man?!?!
And you would sit there and presume to judge a woman?!

(sorry)
I don’t think this farce is even due to Roe, rather I suspect it’s due to fear over the racial spoils system of Affirmative Action, which Kavanagh would probably go along with, being as he was a Bush apparatchik.
In fact I suspect that most of this hysteria and histrionics are theater, since there isn’t a hurricane or other distraction at the moment to peddle advertising, and so they’re milking what they’ve got.
There doesn’t seem to be a nickels bit of difference between ‘different’ sides when it comes to anything of actual consequence, like the legality and Constitutionality (or even morality) of wars based on lies (or torture camps or foreign control of our foreign policy or a thousand other treasons). Of which Kavanagh seems perfectly sanguine about with his silence.
IMHO
Catholics like Buchanan and others think every political issue has Roe v. Wade overtones. This goes far beyond that and a Kavanaugh confirmation means that the (((radical left’s))) attempt to circumscribe the 1st amendment and interpret the second amendment out of existence using the SCOTUS is impossible for at least the next 15-20 years.
The left/Democrats are about achieving total power at any cost and they don’t care whose lives they destroy in the process. Since 2016 the (((American left))) and the Democrat party, arguably before, have finally let the mask fall and reveal themselves as anti-American, white race hating neo-Bolsheviks and as such need to be utterly annihilated.
One more week of delay gives the party that counts among its supporters the best graphic artists and sound engineers in America plenty of time to produce hard evidence.
The incomparably corrupt Lindsay Graham actually said something sensible? Be still my heart!
I honestly don’t know what the hell Trump was thinking, buying into this FBI con. Ford’s lawyer is already whining saying there shouldn’t be an ‘artificial’ time limit set for the FBI. One look at Michael Bromwich and you know he’s the worst specimen of a shyster Jewish lawyer that makes everyone hhhhate lawyers.
Trump is kidding himself if he thinks FBI will finish things up in a week. This is the same agency that gave us Mueller, Comey, McCabe, Ohr, Strzok, Page, the FISA warrants and the Steele Dossier, corrupt to the core and run by Deep State.
The man of God swore to God and the whole country that he did not do this, how much more do you want from him? If we can’t trust this man what else can we trust in this country?
GOP really is the stupid party. Chuck Grassley is an old fool. Flake just needs to go ESAD.
Do photos of Hillary Clinton and Ford’s attorney raise suspinions ??

I’m ready for Trump to disband Congress, declare martial law and himself Emperor.
Anybody better than Trump to do it?
It’s over for Kavanaugh. There will be new accusers every day. Figures it would be Arizona. How is it good for Flake being the guy that sunk Kavanaugh?
“Cadres decide all”, said Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin and Donald Trump have no cadres.
There is Donald Trump, but there are no Trumpists. This is why all the talk about “draining the swamp” was a delusion from the beginning – even if he purged all the “deep state swamp creatures” there is no one to replace them with.
Oh that’s newsy. The Republicans always bend over…forward…. to accommodate the left.
Graham agreed with the FBI investigation, extension and he is still a god damn warmonger.

Behold the superior genes of the Pure Aryan Master Race.
Amen. That charade brought to mind Rex Harrison singing, “If I Could Talk to the Animals.”
The burden of proof is on the accusers, hysterical harpies and flat out bitches, to prove they’re not from Animal Planet. (Harris: “Yes or no, judge, yes or no!” That shrew has a brain like a toggle switch.)
As for Ford’s testimony being “credible and compelling”, he saw something I missed.
Sniffling, hesitant uptalk that made every accusation sound like a question turned from disgusting to amusing when she brought up her neurotransmitters doin’ their thing right in her hippocampus. Was that supposed to make her sound smart? Hippocampus? Sounded to me like more from Animal Planet. Was anyone not disgusted by that pretentious crap about how young Brent violated her hippocampus?
You’re on to something, Wilson. Maybe Kavanaugh is from another planet, a civil one.
And Karl Marx was an alcoholic layabout who beat his wife, then got his housekeeper pregnant and threw her out on the street when he found out. So much for the superior genes of “God’s Chosen People”
I’ve never heard of David Lane but a lot of political extremists are assholes.
I share your cynicism.
Like the “federal” elections held every November in even-numbered years and the 5-4 decrees of the Court, aren’t these nailbiting confirmation hearings part of the show that keeps people gulled into accepting that so many things in life are to be run by people in Washington?
I’m still inclined to the notion that the Constitution was intended, at least by some of its authors and supporters, to create a limited national government. But even by the time of Marbury, those entrusted with the powers have arrogated the authority to redefine them. In my lifetime, the Court exists to deal with hot potato social issues in lieu of the invertebrate Congress, to forebear (along with the invertebrate Congress) the warmongering and other “foreign policy” waged under auspices of the President, and to dignify the Establishment’s shepherding and fleecing of the people.
Why should a robed, unelected politician be redefining marriage? Entrusted to enforce the Constitutional limitations on the others? Sure, questions like these are posed from time to time in a dissenting Justice’s opinion, but that ends the discussion other than in the context of replacing old Justice X with middle-aged Justice Y, as exemplified in the cliche’ soundings of the alarm from Mr. Buchanan, who in this column is keeping the boil on by fear-stoking those who remain fooled by the Swamp Drainer.
Before investing much in the critical importance of a Justice Kavanaugh, think back on Justice Roberts and his vote to sustain the Affordable Care Act. Or reflect on how the Court has declined to vindicate free speech when presented with challenges to the Patriot Act, etc.
Likewise with the prospect of impeachment. At this point, what difference does it make to the Yemeni children on the school busses?
Puppet show.
Exactly. The Democrats will use this week to “find” or create five hundred new women who were “raped” by Kavanaugh.
Flake is a traitor who backstabbed his own team, not just his party, but his *race and sex as well. In a nation of men he would fear for his life every time he left his house. What’s wrong with Arizona? First McCain and now him. I thought New Mexico was supposed to be the flaky (no pun intended) one.
*unless he’s a Jew in which case he scored one for his team.
Re Karl Marx. That’s nothing. Try reading The Psychotic Left by Kerry Bolton. Full o’ laughs (sort of).
Can’t remember who stated this, but it is very telling. “In the future the Soviet Union will become like the United States and the United States will become like the Soviet Union.” NeoBolsheviks should be used to describe those who now run the Democrat party.
The Patriot Act that was much supported if not co-invented by Kavanaugh himself.
Amerikwa is rotting, with all the bad smells inherent. Time to let it compost once and for all. Some lovely growth will eventually come out of the pile. The best, largest, hardiest vegetables and flowers I have ever grown came out of the piles of kitchen and garden waste I threw along the back fence. I don’t even have to baby the piles like some folks do, with all that turning with a fork, etc. and other hard work.
Invertebrate Congress – LOL.
Graham has been slipping. He is trying to redeem himself by acting Tough Guy again. Entirely phony.
flake needs to act important on his way out the door to sell pomade.
Technology was always going to be misused by any government and no Constitution was going to matter. The problem is finding somebody who is cruising up the government career path willing to commit career suicide and that government doing something. I think we already have some people who have tried that, one is in Moscow right now. Do you really think that if it wasn’t Kavanaugh it wouldn’t have been someone else? Remember the mini-controversy during the GWB era when that 40 page legalese drivel about how to get around the 4th amendment was leaked?
Would it have really mattered if instead it was simply one blank sheet of paper as a justification for the government to go around the 4th amendment? The government was going to do what it was going to do and there was an army of people willing to ignore the Constitution for that promotion.
I’ll bet. I’m sure old Karl was just the tip of the (((iceberg))).
Thanks for the rec. It’s just too bad I can all but guarantee that my local library won’t carry it (though they probably have thousands of books about the psychosis of the right) or I’d look for it.
Given the events of the last almost two years driven mostly by the incredible derangement of the Left…I FEAR FOR THE COUNTRY I LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m not sure they understand that nitroglycerine with which they’re playing. Pushed hard enough, the Right will respond.
It will be a disaster for our country.

There will be blood. Can’t you smell it?
Hollywood bimbos will get into trouble. Conservatives will be attacked in streets. Some light gunning-down of Republicans has already been attempted. There will be more. From both sides. There will be repeats of Rosa Luxembourg trash removal, etc. This hasn’t even begun.
