  2. This is a good piece, but I’m not sure we can come to this definitive conclusion… at least not yet. A lot of things are being done behind the scenes to avoid a full rejection. may also have some ability to “work” the DMZ lines to make localized arrangements work.

: Here, says the best way to protect ’s 2 million civilians (try 3m) is for a surrender. Did he miss Jamil Hassan’s statement about 3 million Syrians wanted on terrorism (i.e. death) charges? Or the mass arrest campaigns in “reconciled” areas? Seems so…

Absolutely extraordinary. ’s air defense systems have no way to determine “friend” from “foe.” doesn’t export that tech. Within a complex & unpredictable environment, that raises the risk to civilian aircraft significantly.

Dahhan wrote here about the 'advantages' of systematically starving opposition held areas in Syria.

Interesting statement by fighter, framing Ahrar al-Sham as a hostile force: - "Unfortunately, their main concern is to destroy the groups that support jihad, like Jabhat al-Nusra. They meet the regime and Jabhat al-Nusra with the same hostility.”

My goodness: here's a prime example of policy advocacy on based either on ignorance, or [hopefully not] malign intent. This is *riddled* with inaccuracy & misinformation. says the West should force an opposition surrender in :

. interviews x2 fighters in - & "Abu Yusuf" - both of whom say they've no option but to stay & fight to the death. [Behind scenes, lots of stories about the issue not being quite as black/white for many Western fighters there].

It’s just shocking that nobody wants to step up & deal with this issue. We’ll all regret it eventually. - ’s says it cannot hold 500 foreign fighters & 500 family members forever. Some have already been released/exchanged.

says ’s air defense fired “dozens” of anti-aircraft missiles from several batteries across the country over the space of 40-mins… *after* planes had returned to . One took down ’s IL-20.

: Next up, reveals how little he knows about the conflict in - he says surrendering rebels won’t need to be conscripted, as “the war is almost over.” The regime (& ) is absolutely **desperate** for conscripts & “stabilization” requires *many* more.

: This paragraph really is something extraordinary. uses the same logic of CW truthers in asking: - "The idea that the authorities would kill civilians who return to government control makes little sense.” Do some research - it’s been the norm for years.

: Next, brings forth his anti-imperialist pedigree in claiming “rebels have not given up the hope of a US-led bombing campaign on ’s headquarters in ” - They gave up on that 4yrs ago. You won’t find a single rebel who “hopes” anything of the sort.

: Here, tells us that “western special forces” have worked with Ahrar al-Sham. That’s ridiculous. + Zinki works in , not . Then he repeats the line, by describing as a rebel group. That’s both false & stupendously irresponsible.

: Here, says UK, US, France & "Gulf Arab monarchies” want ceasefires to protect rebels, not civilians. In , nothing could be further from the truth. None of those countries have *any* ties to rebel groups in , who only equal ~0.5% of the population.

: says the US, UK & are “less honorable” in seeking to delay & ’s “success” in regaining territory. - They seek to enable a meaningful political process, in which there’s an opposition entity to sit at the table. I’d say that is honorable.
