From what I see will happen in Idlib is 2 scenarios: 1st is that HTS + allies will fight a long & bloody war vs Turkey. 2nd (& most likely) is that HTS will re-structure into their backed Salvation Gov (which Turkey has officially delt with) as its formal army meaning no war.

Tahrir al-Sham's "al-Zubeir al-Ghazi" warns Idlib demilitarized zone will mean: • Rebel areas ill-defended and vulnerable to attack; • Surrender of military and administrative control; • Loss of key areas that allow rebels to threaten retaliation against loyalist strongholds.

Suggestive timing, although presumably this was in the works beforehand: HTS’s Abu al-Fateh al-Farghali issues fatwa permitting (pre-Sochi deal) deployment of Turkish heavy weapons to observation points because didn’t upset Tahrir al-Sham’s overall dominance (al-zhuhour).

Salafi Jihadi ideologues al-Maqdisi & Abdel-Halim responded, with al-Maqdisi saying he's always been against letting the "apostate Turkish army" enter, & they should be dealt with like any other occupier. Abdul-Halim say similar, & criticises HTS for not making amends with AQ.

Another (and more important) part is his recollection of how he asked UBL what the Taliban's stance was on AQ launching external attacks, which UBL later responded in a meeting with senior AQ leaders (including AQAPs al-Wuhayshi & al-Aansi): "We've received a general permission".

Senior al-Qa'ida veteran Abu Hudhayfa al-Sudani shared some of his memories of his time with Usama Bin Ladin, one bit was how UBL fraternized with the youth and played volleyball with them, which he excelled in due to his long height.

AQ sympathiser Adnan Hadid reflects on adding HTS to its terror list. The ambition is to pressure HTS from its current state of 'partial subjugation' to a 'full subjugation' to Turkey he argues. This will eventually split HTS in 2.

So, Russia and Turkey stresses the importance of securing Hmeimim Airbase from further drone attacks with Russia using it as lead justification to attack Idlib. Now HTS say all reports of drones attacking are fake news (even tho HTS leaders regularly praised them). Correlation?

I'm waiting for the Left who openly & proudly support the "anti-imperialist, socialist, secular" US-armed YPG, who have recently been summarily executing Kurdish civilians for "collaboration" with TFSA, to discuss the fact that they have received $100 million in Saudi funding.
