    Some powers may not want the regime to retake all rebel held areas in the northwest. The US may not want to be the only power facing the regime axis, and Iran may not want to have all regional eyes focused on its presence in Syria.

    The regime & Russia clearly say they want to retake all of Syria. They attempted to take ground from US backed forces in Tanaf and Deirezzor but were stopped by the US robust responses that destroyed their military convoys. So without using force, Turkey can't defend any area.

    Turkey has been recently reinforcing its bases in northern Aleppo and Afrin. After taking Idlib the regime will advance on Albab and Afrin. Turkey should either fight now for the whole area or give in and withdraw from Syria.

    If Turkey is serious about defending Idlib they should allow the rebels to attack from Albab towards Aleppo city. Regime has weak defenses along this front.
