We are holding various events to share how fun and interesting math can be with more people.
We started the "Math Senryus and Haikus (*)" event in 2011, using senryu and haiku poems that Japanese people are familiar with to help them discover the mystery and beauty that numbers have to offer, while also bringing them closer to math. When we first held this event, an incredible total of 18,924 poems were submitted, showing us the high level of interest people have for math-related subjects.
* When we held this event the second time, we threw tanka poems into the mix as well, to make it a "Math Senryus, Haikus, and Tanka" event.
Junior high and high school students from all over Japan form teams to compete in the "National Math Championship," which, as the name implies, is a competition allowing students to show off their math skills. Every year the number of participating schools and teams rises, for a display of intense competition. The intention of this tournament is based on mathematical ability, but we also want participants to recognize the importance of cohesiveness and bonding among team members, and to experience the satisfaction of working together with partners to take on their rivals from throughout Japan.
We also frequently hold math events in which parents and children can work together as a team.
