The eulogies for John McCain at his funeral are reminiscent of Pericles’s Funeral Oration. They aren’t really about McCain, but rather the kind of politics McCain represented which captures the real spirit of the American democracy.

And even worse than those two are those who have done NOTHING for Syrian people but are busy sabotaging Turkey's last minute attempt to save Idlib. Like Turkey or not, it is not the Arab countries doing everything to save Idlib or receive its 3 million refugees. So get some grip.

Assad still thinks of himself as nationalist Arab leader facing imperialism (not funny). But even funnier are some people who are anti-Assad not because he is a butcher but because he is pro-Iran.

There is a new trend of Fake Uurba. These are guys who are still in the era of praising families and tribes but shamelessly invoke Arab nationalism (mostly racist) when it comes to non-Arabs. For example, the only issue they see in Syria is 'non Arabs intervening'!

I went to the theatre without having dinner, so I was bit hungry. But during the play, there is a scene when they randomly sell nice Afghani food to someone and tonight i was the lucky one. It made it triple fun

Hi . I had an iftar tour in London this Ramadan. I went to 27 different iftar destinations. This thread is what British Islam looked like: diverse. The definition of bigotry is giving space to an amateur Islamophobe paint such a diverse community with a hateful brush.

The worsening conditions of Muslims in India, China and the atrocities in Myanmar are first because of being dictatorships or illiberal majoritarian democracies. That is why Muslims in the West should see the liberal democratic order a ni'ma and work to preserve it.

The Islamophobia in the West is in essence a totalitarian movement. That is exactly why the far right in the West would love to copy what China does to its Muslims. Any setback in democratic liberal values is a win for the far right and a loss for Muslims before any other group.

What China does to its Muslims should motivate Muslims work to protect the Western liberal democracies. As strange a conclusion as it may seem, the liberal democracies in the West are among some of the last castles where a Muslim feels safe and secure.

Having just perused Douglas Murray's book, I am not sure if Jonathan Sacks was condemning or complementing Corbyn by comparing his words to Enoch Powell's "Rivers of Blood" speech. Because in Sacks's recommended book, Murray speaks very positively of Powell's speech. pp.17-19.

Al Azhar declaring sexual harassment haram is like saying having pork for breakfast is forbidden. Muslims who give fatwahs a darn might not even be using their hand to touch themselves let alone others. Such fatwahs might be good PR but sexual harassment in egypt is beyond them.

The only politics that can defeat this wave of nationalism/racism/populism is centrist politics. Extremists on the right and the left feed off each other. We need more Macrons throughout Europe to bring back some sanity to politics.

Hate is a powerful tool. In politics, it is even more powerful than love. Hate becomes extremely dangerous when it becomes more than a raw and spontaneous feeling and turns into a way of politics. Populists can use hate the best and make it look like legitimate opposition.

McCain on Trump: “I called him the week after the election to congratulate him. He kept on saying ‘You didn’t support me.’ I said, ‘That’s right.... After what you said about Dr. Khan, a Gold Star father, no way I could ever support you.’”

The Professional Left excoriating a dead Congressman because his response to “the Arab” kerfuffle (11 years ago) wasn’t as sophisticated and nuanced as they’d like is the epitome of where we are today, politically.
