CNBC isnt it trying to get an honest story. Do you really think they thought Belfort and the guy living in the tree-house would give the most informed opinions? Of course not, but they apply to the simple minded who want confirmations & they will provide comfort for normal ppl.

the way they make people invest on ripple at 3.00 and then ask them to sell at 0.70 really opened my eyes that the media is evil, it even makes me question the school system

If helpful, I wrote a media literacy guide, partially inspired by cryptocurrency media: https://github.com/nemild/hack-the-media … (cc:
@etscrivner). Coverage is often a function of the audience incentives these media sources face. -
Appreciate the share. I think more than examining the hows and whys of media distortion, I’m interested in the epistemological ramifications - what should we do with that knowledge. IMO - tune out, treat it as mostly entertainment and marketing.

I'd argue that we should develop the ability to identify the information that's useful, while tuning out the rest. In my guide for software engs, I actually note how much of tech content is marketing:https://github.com/nemild/hack-the-media/blob/master/software-engineers-media-guide.md …

I think we generally agree here - I think people should develop their own methodologies for sieving useful (not necessarily the same as true in correspondence theory sense) information from internet content. What is useful will depend on the individual and their situation.
