Surgeries for women, and for other AMAB trans people
"AMAB" is a shorthand for "assigned male at birth."
Listed are some of the surgeries that are medically necessary, or desired, for trans women and other trans people assigned male at birth. A few people undergo
them all, often at great cost (and often with great satisfaction afterwards), and some
choose to undergo none or only some. They include:
- Orchiectomy (removal of the testes, i.e. castration)
- Vaginoplasty (creation of a vagina)
- Labiaplasty (creation of labia; usually refers to creation of clitoral hood as
well)
- Breast augmentation
- Surgeries on the vocal cords to make the voice's pitch higher
- Facial feminization surgeries (FFS) of various sorts:
- Hairline changes
- Brow lift
- Rhinoplasty (reshaping of the nose)
- Chin and jaw reshaping
- Various procedures on the lips
- Flattening and smoothing of the brow ridge
- Tracheal shave (reduction of Adam's apple)
- Facelift
