To be fair, he's not verified, so how can us hip millennials know he's important

Why does someone have to be important in order to treat them with respect? Is power all you respect?
-
I also respect Courage and Wisdom
-
Homer is Vietnam Vet with a bronze star... so your excuse on the courage aspect is what?
-
A Zelda joke
-
Meh, I'm a Madden, NHL kinda guy... so just like the sky, that reference would forever be over my head.

I respect your choices

Did we just have a civil discussion on twitter, of all places?

I can't believe
@NASA gave an internship to someone who didn't know who Homer Hickem was. -
Hold the fuck up now. Read Hickam’s own words before casting these judgments. http://homerhickamblog.blogspot.com/2018/08/social-media.html … This girl was profusely apologetic, and regardless, Hickam had NOTHING to do with her firing- it was people online contacting/tagging NASA about the post

Do you people really want to pretend this young lady deserves to lose the opportunity of her life for being uncouth, as is typical on the internet, with her excitement? Is that justice to the internet mob?
-
Maturity counts in the real world, you get blown if you don't act professional and acting like that reflects who you are in the real world

Exactly. I find it interesting how a lot of people thing the internet is this magical place where there are no consequences for actions. Nope. That’s not how it works...ESPECIALLY when you are with a large corporation and TAGGED them in the messages.

I hope that she both A. Understands the lesson she has been taught and B. Is offered a role suitable to her talents. I also hope that she realises how her initial, impulsive actions almost cost her the opportunity of a lifetime. Time and place is important.

"Someone"
-
For those who don't recognize the name: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homer_Hickam …
-
Side note. How is HOMER HICKAM not verified,
@TwitterSupport? -
You have to apply for it, some people just dont' bother.
-
I would argue to NASA that since he’s not verified, he thought it was a fake account just messing with him, and he made a crude joke to the wrong person. Not really fair for Homer to be walking around like a regular joe.
-
Uh? You shouldn't make crude jokes to anyone when you don't know who it is and that there okay with it should be the takeaway here.
-
Alternatively, Homer Hickam should be less uptight about somebody being excited that they got to work at NASA. Since when is it unacceptable to swear on Twitter?
-
Twitter isn't some magical place where the rules of society no longer apply. It also matters in context. My business caters to a small niche so what I except from the people I work with online and what NASA does are gonna be two different things.
