Jimmy Carter basically saying peaceful Syrian activists should return to their original call for reform, to which Assad responded with death & destruction, then loosely outlines UN Security Council resolution 2254, agreed in 2015 but unimplemented to date.

This is a polite way of saying Jimmy Carter is clueless about Syria. And Syrian civilians will continually suffer from his ignorance and all the politicians who ignore the will of the people.

Carter is, I think, a decent man. But when it comes to policy the village idiot of Plains, GA should remain there and keep quiet.

What’s interesting though is their choice of words. When Chlorine is mentioned against them they say it’s not a chemical weapon yet here they are mentioning 8 canisters of chlorine and specifically call it chemical weapons. Same hypocrisy and lies as always.

They're posting this in advance in hopes that people will defend Assad after he carries out another chemical weapons massacre.

Third, Mr. Carter takes truth and reconciliation off the table and has the gall to invoke such a claim in the name of peace: "Assigning responsibility for the catastrophe in would be an important part of postwar healing, but the priority now should be to end the war." 4/4

"A better approach at this point would be to test the Syrian government’s ability to embark on a new course". As if nobody tried that before.

Since 2012, the regime has resorted to the use of chemical weapons during military offensives, not only in Ghouta but also in Khan Sheikhoun, Ltamenah, Saraqib, and Douma, killing and injuring thousands of people.

The second one: "the Syrian government must accept the inevitability of reforms and implement confidence-building measures, including the release of detainees and accountability for their treatment." It's as if Mr. Carter hasn't read the news (eg ). 3/4

The obscene Jimmy Carter (and his Center) has been pushing an explicitly pro-Assad line since 2011. Of course, before the Syrian uprising, he was advocating for Assad just the same.
