The Share on Twitter extension is quite useful add-on for Twitter web users. It is available for Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Opera browsers. It enables users to easily share the current tab, links and selected text on Twitter. Users can use its button on the toolbar or option in the context menu (right click menu). Install it from Mozilla AMO, Chrome Web Store or Opera’s Add-on Gallery – and start using it to be more productive.
How To Use
To tweet your current tab, click on extension’s toolbar button as shown in the following screenshot:
Alternatively, you can right click anywhere on the page and select “Share page on Twitter” option in the appeared context menu, as shown in the following screenshot:
Users can also share text snippets using this extension. Select the snippet and right click on it, then select the option “Share selection on Twitter”. The extension will automatically add URL of the current page to the selection, so that your Twitter followers can find the source page.
To directly share any link on Twitter, just right click on it and select the option “Share link on Twitter”.
Google Chrome users can use keyboard shortcut command Alt + T to quickly share the current tab on Twitter. Make sure this keys combination doesn’t conflict with any other installed extension.
Change Preferences
By default, this extension launches the sharing link in a new popup window (new tab in case of Firefox). Users can change this preference and opt to open the sharing link in a new tab (popup window in case of Firefox). To change this setting, you would have to visit extension’s options page.
Chrome and Opera users should follow steps shown in this video. Firefox users should visit Extensions page by pressing Ctrl + Shift + A keyboard shortcut and choose “Options” in front of Share on Twitter extension.
Now, you can change your choice and save the preference:
Benefits
The Share on Twitter extension is a basic, light-weight and privacy friendly tool. It directly connects users to Twitter, without requiring any authorization or intermediate service. Moreover, it doesn’t use any third-party URL shortening service, because Twitter already offers its own link shortening service (t.co). You can track clicks and other related data using Twitter’s Analytics service for free. Hence, you don’t need any third-party link shortening service now.
This extension doesn’t ask for any permission like access to browsing history or modifying site content.
The Share on Twitter extension has been appreciated by Google Chrome team, Opera team, Lifehacker.com and various others.
Moreover, the Share on Twitter is an open source project. You can browse and fork its basic code on GitHub.
Advanced Features?
For Chrome users, we offer a similar extension with few advanced features: Share on Twitter Plus. You should definitely check out the plus version.

Always liked the Twitter extension, but the one installed recently no longer closes itself after clicking the Tweet button like it use to do. Maybe I have different extension. Don’t know.
Tried extension a few moments ago. This time the “Close” button was not active. Had to close popup window from “X”, upper-right.
Using latest version of Firefox (55.0.3 64-bit) on Windows 10 (latest version, too)
Be nice if I knew solution to these problems.
Excellent addon–superior to the built-in “share to Twitter/Facebook” addon.
Any plans to make it compatible with FF on Android?
Still waiting to get a fix/update so the popup window will self-close after Tweeting.
@Ron: We have a created a different extension with above feature. Install it from here: https://browsernative.com/share-twitter-plus-extension/
Great addon. What I still would like is: open up with an empty edit box. Oftenly I just want fire a tweet but then I don’t need the initial text in the edit box.
@Arpit: Thank you but I don’t use Chrome as my default browser. Use Firefox. Thank you for trying and letting me know about the Chrome extension.
I use this extension to immediately send any text selection via twitter, via contextual menu, in a direct and simple way. It is irreplaceable for those who use a lot of twitter.
This was working Great with my VPN until this week – Twitter is changing its TOS so much I cant use this unless I unclick my VPN . I love this app I hope i can get a solution TY and god bless
