Asian Games updates: Kerala’s Prakash makes it to swimming finals, Bajrang bags gold
Surpassing all the difficulties, Kerala’s swimmer Sajan Prakash became the first Indian swimmer to make it to the finals of 200m butterfly event at the ongoing Asian Games 2018 after 1986.
Till date, India has won three medals -one gold, one silver and one bronze. Wrestler Bajrang Punia bagged first gold for India while Shooter Deepak Kumar bags silver at 10m Air Rifle and duo of shooters Apurvi Chandela and Ravi Kumar won mixed team bronze.
The 24 year old Sajan Prakash is a native of Idukki, Kerala which is the most affected part by the flood and he has no idea where his relatives are as he says, “I still don’t know where and how they are. All I know is that they are being taken to some safe. I pray for their safety”.
He further added, “My mother, who is in Tamil Nadu, though it best that I not be disturbed by the news. So I was told of it only my grandmother and uncle had been shifted. I still haven’t been able to speak to them”.
Though Prakash spent sleepless nights worrying for his family and was very nervous at the day of the event, he considered the pressure helped him to get through the finals.
Other major achievements by the India in the ongoing Asian Games includes gold in the Men’s freestyle 55 kg category bagged by Bajrang Punia by defeating Japan’s Takatani Daichi on Sunday.
In the 10m Air Rifle Mixed event of Asian Games, duo of Ravi Kumar and Apurvi Chandela secured bronze medal with 429.9 points while Taipei team won the gold with 494.1 points and china won the silver with 492.5 points.
Hope of winning the medals in many other sports events is still on as Indian athletes are doing well and reached to the upper levels of sports like rowing of men’s doubles and women’s doubles, handball, basketball, etc.,
