  7. Can’t agree with this: Turkey is not Russia. Turkey has had democratic elections longer than has had Spain. Putin easily wins with 60-70 % support in Russia, Erdogan barely crosses 50 %. The bottom line is that Turkey remains pluralistic and diverse, and is inherently democratic

    Conventional wisdom in DC regarding Turkey, driven by Reductio ad Erdoganum was wrong when it rallied for him to "make Turkey more democratic". It is wrong again, suggesting to kick Turkey out of NATO, etc. to punish Erdogan. US policy needs to be about Turkey, not its government
