Kami (Japanese: 神)

Anime Reference- Mikage and Nanami

These are the spirits or phenomena that are worshipped in the religion of Shinto. They are elements in nature, animals, creationary forces in the universe, as well as spirits of the revered deceased. Many Kami are considered the ancient ancestors of entire clans, and some ancestors became Kami upon their death if they were able to embody the values and virtues of Kami in life. Traditionally great or charismatic leaders like the Emperor could be kami.In Shinto, Kami are not separate from nature, but are of nature, possessing positive and negative, good and evil characteristics. They are manifestations of Musubi (結び), the interconnecting energy of the universe, and are considered exemplary of what humanity should strive towards. Kami are believed to be “hidden” from this world, and inhabit a complementary existence that mirrors our own, shinkai (the world of the Kami). To be in harmony with the awe inspiring aspects of nature is to be conscious of kannagara no michi [the way of the Kami] (随神の道 or 惟神の道). Though the word Kami is translated in multiple ways, no one definition expresses its full meaning. In this way, the ambiguity of the meaning of Kami is necessary, as it conveys the ambiguous nature of Kami themselves. As Shinto is an inclusive religion, Kami has been expanded to include Buddhas and the Judeo-Christian God.

Kami is the Japanese word for a god, deity, divinity, or spirit. It has been used to describe "mind" (心霊), "God" (ゴッド), "supreme being" (至上者), "one of the Shinto deities", an effigy, a principle and anything that is worshipped. Although "god" or "deity" is the common interpretation of kami

Because Japanese does not normally distinguish grammatical number in nouns, it is sometimes unclear whether Kami refers to a single or multiple entities. When a singular concept is needed, "-kami" (神) or "-kamisama" (神様) is used as a suffix.[citation needed] The logograms for kami-sama are those used for shén yàng inPŭtōnghuà; kami-sama can be used for a divinity, or for an outstanding human, such as Tezuka Osamu, "the god of manga." The term generally used to refer to multiple Kami is Kamigami.

Extra fact for Tezukaa Osamu-

His prolific output, pioneering techniques, and innovative redefinitions of genres earned him such titles as "the father of manga", "the god of comics", and "kamisama of manga". Additionally, he is often credited as the "Godfather of Anime" and is considered the Japanese equivalent to Walt Disney, who served as a major inspiration during Tezuka's formative years. He by the way rather than making many great anime’s or manga’s, which he did, invented most of the drawing styles!

In the ancient Shinto traditions there were 5 defining characteristics of Kami.

✩ Kami are of two minds. They can nurture and love when respected, or they can cause destruction and disharmony when disregarded. Kami must be appeased in order to gain their favor and avoid their wrath. Traditionally, Kami possess two souls, one gentle (nigi-mitama) and the other assertive (ara-mitama); additionally in Yamakage Shinto kami have two additional souls that are hidden, one happy (sachi-mitama) and one mysterious (kushi-mitama).

✩ Kami are not visible to the human realm. Instead they inhabit sacred places, natural phenomena or people during rituals that ask for their blessing.

✩ They are mobile, visiting their places of worship, of which there can be several, but never staying forever.

✩ There are many different varieties of Kami. There are 300 different classifications of Kami listed in the Kojiki, and they all have different functions, such as the Kami of wind, Kami of entryways, and Kami of roads.

✩   Lastly, all Kami have a different guardianship or duty to the people around them. Just as the people have an obligation to keep the Kami happy, the Kami have to perform the specific function of the object, place, or idea they inhabit.

These are the most notable Kami’s! see if you can identify some?

Amaterasu Omikami, the sun goddess

Hachiman, the god of war

Inari Okami, god of rice and agriculture

Izanagi-no-Mikoto, the first man

Izanami-no-Mikoto, the first woman

Kotoamatsukami, the primary kami trinity

Omoikane, the deity of wisdom

Sarutahiko Okami, kami of earth

Susanoo-no-mikoto, the sea and storms god

Tsukuyomi, the moon god

Ryūjin the Japanese dragon god of sea and storms

Shinto followers believe that the Kami are the ones who can either grant blessings or curses to a person. Shinto believers desire to appease the evil Kami to 'stay on their good side,' and also to please the good Kami. In addition to practicing the four affirmations daily, Shinto believers also wear omamori to aid them in remaining pure and protected. Mamori are charms that keep the evil kami from striking a human with sickness or causing disaster to befall him.

The Kami are both worshipped and respected within the religion of Shinto. The goal of life to Shinto believers is to obtain magokoro, a pure sincere heart, which can only be granted by the Kami. As a result, Shinto followers are taught that humankind should venerate both the living and the nonliving, because both possess a divine superior spirit within: the Kami.

Shinto Shrines!!

okay so this is the last one and this is where I explain about the shrines and shrine festivals

A Shinto shrine (神社 jinja, archaic: shinsha, meaning: "place of the god") is a structure whose main purpose is to house ("enshrine") one or more Shinto (神道 Shintō) kami. Its most important building is used for the safekeeping of sacred objects, and not for worship. Although only one word ("shrine") is used in English, in Japanese Shinto shrines may carry any one of many different, non-equivalent names like gongen, -gū, jinja, jingū, mori, myōjin, -sha, taisha, ubusuna or yashiro.

Structurally, a Shinto shrine is usually characterized by the presence of a honden [ or sanctuary], where the kami is enshrined. The honden may however be completely absent, as for example when the shrine stands on a sacred mountain to which it is dedicated, and which is worshiped directly. The honden may be missing also when there are nearby altar-like structures called himorogi or objects believed capable of attracting spirits called yorishiro that can serve as a direct bond to a kami. There may be a haiden (拝殿 hall of worship) and other structures as well (see below). However, the shrines' most important building is used for the safekeeping of sacred objects rather than for worship.

Miniature shrines (hokora) can occasionally be found on roadsides. Large shrines sometimes have on their precincts miniature shrines (sessha (摂社) or massha (末社?)). The portable shrines (mikoshi) which are carried on poles during festivals (matsuri) enshrine kami and are therefore true shrines.

The number of Shinto shrines in Japan is estimated to be around 100,000. O.O wow!!!!

A shrine basically looks like this

The following is a diagram illustrating the most important parts of a Shinto shrine.

Torri - Shinto gate

Stone stairs

Sandō - the approach to the shrine

Chōzuya or temizuya - purification font to cleanse one's hands and mouth

Tōrō - decorative stone lanterns

Kagura-den - building dedicated to Noh or the sacred kagura dance

Shamusho - the shrine's administrative office

Ema - wooden plaques bearing prayers or wishes

Sessha/massha - small auxiliary shrines

Komainu - the so-called "lion dogs", guardians of the shrine

Haiden - oratory or hall of worship

Tamagaki - fence surrounding the honden

Honden - main hall, enshrining the kami

On the roof of the haiden and honden are visible chigi (forked roof finials) and katsuogi (short horizontal logs), both common shrine ornamentations.

I will be posting another blog for more information! ^^

Shrine Festivals

Matsuri (祭) is the Japanese word for a festival or holiday. In Japan, festivals are usually sponsored by a local shrine or temple, though they can be secular.

There are no specific matsuri days for all of Japan; dates vary from area to area, and even within a specific area, but festival days do tend to cluster around traditional holidays such as Setsubun or Obon. Almost every locale has at least one matsuri in late summer/early autumn, usually related to the rice harvest.

Notable matsuri often feature processions which may include elaborate floats. Preparation for these processions is usually organized at the level of neighborhoods, or machi. Prior to these, the local kami may be ritually installed in mikoshi and paraded through the streets.

One can always find in the vicinity of a matsuri booths selling souvenirs and food such as takoyaki, and games, such as Goldfish scooping. Karaoke contests, sumo matches, and other forms of entertainment are often organized in conjunction with matsuri. If the festival is next to a lake, renting a boat is also an attraction.

That's all for this post! hope you liked it!!!

The Adorable Tsundere- Subaru Sakamaki (Diabolik Lovers)

"Stay away from me! It only makes me want to destroy you."

"How DARE you interrupt my precious sleep?!"

Yass! The cutest stereotype in the entire harem- Tsundere! So my choice as the best tsundere in anime and manga fandom is the youngest master of Sakamaki nobility, Subaru Sakamaki. What can be the reasons? Looks, attitude or maybe dialogues? Of course Subaru is dropdead gorgeous and is amazing with his words, but what I love the most about him is how the rude and badassery is combined with his adorable tsundere attitude.

Subaru is shown to be very hotheaded and violent, often resorting to act like breaking things or giving one of his famous "Tch!"s. But still when it comes to a trouble that involves everyone, he is the one to support with his strength and obedience. He isn't really a pervert (actually it's the other way round), and he acts extremely adorable as a tsundere. It was pretty unique as to how he doesn't blush much, but hides his softness with some blunt lies and a stoic face. He even helps the useless heroine to escape, and does a lor many things for others (making me so damn jealous). I would like to have him as the tsundere in my harem to make things more challenging and yet sweet- handling this sweet and sour gummybear and his poor lies which he uses to camouflage his softness. What makes him stand out from the other typical tsunderes is his composed attitude although he is flustered and annoyed and how badass he acts when he is teased. Rather than arguing and blushing, he simply dumps the entire situation into someone else's shoulders and leaves. That's pretty cute how he tries to act normal or tough when he is being emotionally blackmailed, which in turn makes it clear to the audience that he after all is the youngest one despite how he acts- our precious Sakamaki "Bocchan".

The Sweetheart Shota- Shirotani Tadaomi (Ten Count)

"Never say you will miss me, when you know you are the reason why I am gone..."

"Stay away! It's DISGUSTING!"

Yes, in my harem the eldest one among the cast is my sweetheart shota. Why, you ask? Cause Shirotani Tadaomi, the lovely office worker from the manga Ten Count is childish, cute and an innocent cinnamon roll manga fans have ever seen.

Shirotani first shows up as a devoted, calm and loyal worker who is suffering from severe Mysophobia. But soon as the story proceeds, we can see actually how cute and transparent he is. He lies, and keeps lying about his feelings too. But it is so damn easy to see through them in an instant. He is supportive and soothing, as we can see how he turns out to be the one filling up the hole Kurose had from his bizarre childhood. The role of the shota in an harem is hardly the main ship, rather he tends to be the happy-go-lucky, cute and always is the one at the role of the little brother. And just fitting this criteria, I find Shirotani as the cutest ever male character created in anime and manga fandom. Breaking down easily yet having iron-hard resolve to show his love, crying and struggling to run away yet falling asleep on your arms so easily. Easy to please with a little adores and the innocent emotional support he gives. Makes Shirotani simply like a child of 10 years trapped in the body of a young man of 31. And therefore, I can think of nobody else but this fragile and soft marshmellow as my shota in the harem.

Mr. Perfect Guy- Sebastian Michaelis (Kuroshitsuji)

"I am simply one hell of a butler."

"Human hearts are quite irksome, you see. Unlike the flesh, you cannot see or touch a human heart. And not even a devil or god can bind the heart of another in the truest sense of the word."

2 cups of perfection, 3 cups of hotness, a few tablespoons of ruthless sadism, 1 whole cup of badass dark humor; and you get the most perfect guy any girl could ask for- Sebastian Michaelis aka our BASSY! What can be a better choice than him for this vital stereotype of reverse harem?

Sebastian Michaelis is the head butler of Phantomhive nobility in old Victorian Britain. His outward demeanor is that of a Loyal, impeccable and highly skilled servant. However, he is actually ruthless, sadistic and stoic about emotions. Just to enjoy the show, he even puts Ciel into toubles that won't really harm but sure is bothersome. And his greatest feature- his hotness. Sebastian is the hottest one among the entire cast of my harem. This question may arise that why would I keep someone as demonic as him in my harem. But when we see how brutally honest and perfect he is, any girl would be head over heels for him. Besides his killer looks, I absolutely love his wit, personality, control over himself and efficiency. Usually when we have someone in our life, be it in any relationship, we want him or her to be 100% loyal and trustworthy to us. And quick-wit, skill and confidence that Sebastian has, makes him just so reliable and someone we would love to have by our sides. For his unique and yet flirty personality, he is suitable for any kind of relationship- starting from best friends to your lover. Flaws in his personality aren't many, and even if he has some, they are neatly masked behind his extremely adaptable and versatile attitude. I like how Sebastian is cheerful, and has an absolutely twisted sense of humor (for which he seems apparently proud). He certainly makes the most compatible and enjoyable one of all the harem princes.

P.S: Anyone, (especially boys) if you still have confusion why Bassy is the best one as Mr. Perfect Guy, ask any random girl out there who have watched BB and she will explain you the reason ;)

The Sexy Megane- Takeru Fujiwara (Prince of Stride: Alternative)

"It's better to look back at life and say "I don't believe I did that" than looking back and saying "I wish I did that".

"If you are serious about Stride, eat white meat."

Oh yass the nerdy and sexy meganes! Megane has always been one of my favourite features in anime bishies. When it is paired up with the nerdy attitude and gorgoeus gentlemen-like looks, one of the vital 'components' of the harem is formed. And for this category, my first and always favourite guy is Takeru Fujiwara, the amazing Stride player of Honan Academy!

Takeru Fujiwara appears as a calm, quiet, observant and stoic guy with sharp glares in sober eyes. Since he has been playing since middle school, he is pretty versatile in the game. But unlike most other meganes in anime as we can see, he is pathetic in mental and intellectual games (makes him stand out from the rest doesn't it?). His running speed and aesthetics in the game is excellent, so he has been set as the anchor or final runner. Takeru, because of his adaptability, makes an excellent friend and teammate. I love how he is calm under pressure and trusts his teammate blindly when needed. Here we do have an observation to be honest, that in the case of attitude and behavior, he isn't really different from the other nerds in anime and manga fandom. Stoicness with indifferent attitude, and also the scholarly way of talking. But what makes him favourite and unique from the rest is his verse in the theoretical parts like biochemistry, nutrition and rest which is very related to the daily life. He is pretty strategic and witful, besides being really considerate unlike the other dominating nerd characters. Ultimately Takeru turns out to be an amazing guy who is just quiet and sometimes says some bizarre things but is passionate and confident. Astoundingly inspiring indeed. Not to mention he is super handsome too. Hence, Takeru is my one and only choice as the sexy megane in my harem.

The Flirty Player- Ferid Bathory (Owari no Seraph)

"I have no interest in what you humans do. Tear each other apart for all I care. What does it matter to me if the pigs start feeding on each other?"

"I have been waiting for you... my poor little lambs. Yes. That look! That expression on a human's face the instant hope turns into despair. That is why I can't stop playing this little game."

Aww! One of the most interesting characters we have in every harem. The mysteriously unpredictable, flirty and handsome playboys. And guess who is my choice for this category? The sexy and savage vampire noble, the 7th progenitor from Owari no Seraph- Ferid Bathory!

Ferid is the most sly, tactical and mischievous character in the Owari no Seraph franchise; to be honest in any of the animes I have seen. His way with words and the steps he takes in any situation are usually very unexpected and also convincing, making his personality really different from the rest. What I like the most about him is his flirty and smooth way of talking and not to mention, his stunning looks. Fitting the criteria of the "Flirty Playboy" or "Lady Killer" in a harem, Ferid's mysterious smiles and absolutely balanced way of behaving makes him perfect for this category. What makes him stand out from the other qualified candidates for this category, is his wildness when he is mad. Actually, it is a rare case when Ferid is mad plus it is really hard to guess what he is actually thinking about right now. He is selfish I won't deny the fact, but he also had a sharp sense of self respect, both for humankind and vampires which makes him mock both the creatures for their greed and arrogance respectively. Ferid gets bored easily as he is extremely good at creating new plans and memorizing stuff. Now what does that mean? He is simply a vibrant soul who can't stay without liveliness. Causing bunches of trouble and making "interesting" (!) things happen, Ferid Bathory is one of the most attractive character in my harem.

The Hero Who Stands Out- Son Hak (Akatsuki no Yona)

“A world without weaponry and war, where no one gets hurt, is but a pipe dream.”

“Keep your mouth shut and hang on, Princess. Think of me as a tool. Use me so that you can live! That's what I'm here for!”

'The Hero Who Stands Out'. A stereotype in harems that is pretty common but underrated. These are the characters who, for their excellent ideals leave their essence in our hearts for a long time even though the show ended. For me, one such great and inspiring hero in my harem would be none other than the brave Thunder Beast and the 5th General of the Kouka Kingdom Hiryuu Castle- Son Hak.

Hak is a pretty unique character who first shows up as a real asshole who never worries about what people would think or feel before acting. Openly mocking the princess, teasing the princess's cousin, and what not. But he was the only guy who was loyal enough to support the princess when none did, taking up all the blames on his shoulders. His thoughts on loyalty, servitude and wild savage courage was what I absolutely liked about him. Everyone in this world will surely promise to protect someone if asked, and swearing on humanity, they would of course keep that promise. This is human instinct not to remain guilty to your conscience, I would say. But very few of them would actually continue to do it when it is he who will be in trouble in exchange. Not necessarily they would keep supporting you without expecting anything in exchange just for the sake of their relationships.I was so surprised (and jealous) to see how Hak kept on standing up for Yona even though he was being ripped into shreds. What was his reasons? His ideals? Morality? Love? Yes sure, but not so much. Rather his greatest reason was to keep the promise he made to King Il to protect her daughter and the relationships he had with King, Soo-Won, Yona and the rest in Hiryuu castle.I basically respect him for his bravery and sworn loyalty, which is rare in today's world. People like Hak are always inspirations to move forward respecting yourself and others, and also sometimes they become the reason you are yourself now. Hak therefore is the motivation and reverend of the entire harem I have. Not to mention his dropdead gorgeous looks and badass mischievous sarcasms. I loved Hak's sardonic attitude, being a bully and excellent nicknames he sets for people (Like calling Jae Ha as 'Tareme' meaning 'Droopy Eyes'). He makes an awesome character and potential main ship in my harem.

The Bifauxnen- Yuu Kashima (Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki kun)

“He’s a very tragic person who stopped growing!”

"He's just trying to hide his shynsss. Senpai's true feelings. I'm confident that I know them best."

The hottest and best stereotype I can ask for in any reverse harem- the Bifauxnen. For them who isn't familiar to this word, Bifauxnens are the androgynous looking female characters who act like guys and can also be considered as girls under circumstances. Simply put, the female counterpart of Bishounen (androgynous sexy guys). And among the awesome Bifauxnens anime and manga fandom presented us with, the best and most attractive one ever is Yuu Kashima, the "Prince" of Roman Academy from class 2-G.

Yuu Kashima is a cheerful, plenty airheaded but hardworking girl. She has a really gorgeous androgynous appearance and is rather tall for a girl. She acts in a princely manner making girls fangirl over her. She has a really amazing and friendly demeanor which is very attractive but what I like the most about her is the person inside her. She apparently seems to be a carefree girl with moronic approach towards situations, but she is really loyal, passionate and hardworking, especially towards the drama club and its president Hori Masayuki. She is even seen to get involved or hep out in any situations her friends are facing. A dedicated friend indeed. All that happens is that she misinterprets the situations and take awkward and daring steps without thinking, causing huge troubles. But this makes her cute and enjoyable doesn't it? She is also easy-going and knows how to manage relationships, making her real-life skills amazing to the power 10. Like when she was rivals with Mikoshiba in the first year, she managed to handle it and made besties with him. She also knew how to know her own flaws and passionate about what she loved. Even though she would be the troublemaker and moron of the harem, still she would be the handsome and supportive one of the best "friend-cum-love interest" there, making it as vibrant and loving as possible.

Finally...

.

.

.

Main Ship- Yuu Kashima

YASS! #TeamYuu (looks like none agrees with me ha?) all the way! For me the best and most loved one among my entire harem would be Kashima Yuu the androgynous Prince! Why? What makes her the best among all these mind-blowing candidates? Of course her gorgeous killer looks, but what makes her the best one is her personality which is beautiful inside and outside. She was the one who had all the amazing traits all these characters had, making her nearly-perfect. Yet she had those flaws like being an absolute airhead which made her feel more like a human, a person with a heart. Loving Yuu would be enough to find a reason to live. She is cute with all her lovable acts and who is brave enough to stand up for her friends even if they are wrong (That's what airheads do right?). Kashima was considerate, and the way she thinks and acts is very practical (excluding her flirts) and enjoyable. Her personality can be categorized as one of those rarest ones who can show you this bitter world and life like a beautiful story, removing all the bitterness and making it like a simple playground where we used to play as kids. I would confess to her cause being near her is just comfortable and lovely for her characteral traits. For this statement I am referring to how she said Mikoshiba was "honest and easy to understand" (the only complain against tsundere). She is a loving person who will fill the holes in your heart when you are down. She is a moron who can stand beside people. This world really needs such morons right now.
