And with Turkey not being able to count on US support, it’s optimum time for Russia to move against rebels in Idlib in Syria. Ankara will be pressed to accept Russian action (in return for perhaps a small Turkish belt in northern Idlib, if Putin were feeling generous)

Last night I woke in a cold sweat from a nightmare where I was thrust in front of a bunch of billionaires and had to give a complex presentation with Microsoft Paint which if unsuccessful would crash the entire economy. Glad it was just a dream.

Erdogans made a lot of enemies over the years, but only when he crossed Cold War diplomatic historians was he forced to back down:

Sure, at any moment other than the middle of a crisis hinging on the legitimacy of the Turkish judiciary this would be a compelling oped

AKP haters are happily sharing these types of posts. My humble opinion: If crisis hits big, those who will be affected FIRST will be anti-AKP people unfortunately. Its huge clientelistic networks will for a while protect AKP base. AKP will seize more private assets to survive.++

The basic problem is that the US can destroy Turkey’s economy if they don’t release Brunson and Turkey can still not release Brunson

Amazing to see so many different theories in Turkey about why Trump would do this. For the same reason Erdogan would.

    1) Pres Trump actually played right into Pres Erdogan’s hand making it easier to sell the it’s the US fault narrative, and 2) the US has an interest in a healthy Turkish economy even if Ankara’s geostrategic importance to Washington has waned.

A much more nuanced article than the misleading headline suggests. Turns out Assad had a lot to do with his victory too.
