    With this grand merger, there's only 3 factions/alliances left in Idlib: 1) NLF 2) HTS along with allied non-AQ jihadi groups like TIP. 3) Hilf Nusrat al-Islam (Hurras al-Din and Ansar al-Tawhid) with pro-AQ groups. Maverick FSA group Jaysh al-Ezza status still unclear.

    Extremism is a social disease. It spreads through social contact. And if you want people to disengage, you have to offer an alternative social context. Easier said than done, for sure, but it's a critical element.
