Concerned with an early VIN

Concerned with an early VIN

I am taking delivery next week, my VIN is 4333X. Should i be concerned this seems to be an early VIN, probably manufactured in May?

Hui_liang | July 27, 2018

I have a 39XXX and I couldn’t be more happy with the car, took delivery last tuesday. If you think about May is not that far back... considering how many cars were being pumped out at the time. Just take a chill pill and relax unless something comes up... like what were you gonna do anyway like cancel your order?

lilbean | July 27, 2018

Have you ever cared about the VIN on any other car?

Cyphr1s | July 27, 2018

VIN assignments are random so you can't determine production rate from them. You check the sticker for production date.

CharleyBC | July 27, 2018

@kram: I saw your headline. Then I saw the body of your post. I guess it shows how far we've come that 43xxx is now looked upon as early!

Two weeks ago we got 44xxx and I was happy it was so high! (Built in July, by the way).

And, yes, @lilbean, you're spot on. I've never cared a bit about a VIN before!

Revelate | July 27, 2018

4333X?

That’s nowhere close to an early VIN, that is a July build almost assuredly unless you added a digit.

The June stockpile topped out around 38000 I think.

Pay no attention to the P3D VINs that got jump shifted to the 73XXX range.

Lla4u2 | July 27, 2018

Mine is 37XXX and it was manufactured in June per sticker on the door. Its an absolute beauty, with no issues on delivery.

mikehen08 | July 27, 2018

@CharleyBC what was your build date? My VIN is 44836 and picking up on 8/18 in Maryland

sunflyer | July 27, 2018

241xx, manufactured in June, according to the window sticker. VINs are batched and batch assignments are not always sequential.

mikehen08 | July 27, 2018

lol i was actually on hold with Tesla and right after I posted this they answered.

My build date is 7/23. So I was asked to verify my information the same day it was built and my ISA emailed me the next day on 7/24 with my VIN. Pretty quick turnaround.

Now I have to wait for it to come across the country only to be driven back next year when I move to Vegas lol

CharleyBC | July 27, 2018

@mikehen08, sorry I can't offer much more precision than what I said above: July. We got the car 14 July. We were offered it 13 July, but that didn't work for us. This was Rocklin, CA, so not too much time needed for shipping. So I'd wildly guess it was built somewhere 1-11 July. Your VIN is a few hundred higher.

spockagain34 | July 27, 2018

I have vin #12xxx and it's simply stunning. You'll be fine, enjoy the Model 3!!

CST | July 27, 2018

@Revelate - I picked up June 30th, VIN 466xx.

CST | July 27, 2018

BTW, I was the highest VIN reported until just before pick-up.

GAGSTESLA | July 27, 2018

I have VIN #1651, now that's an early VIN. NO ISSUES, 7 months, 13K miles.

jamey.winchester | July 27, 2018

In GAG'S day, you were lucky to even have a VIN.

Our 434xx delivered 7/11 has 6/2018 on the window sticker.

kram | July 27, 2018

An idle mind is a devils workshop. If not for the delay in delivery and the frequent postponement I would not be thinking about these things.

My concern has been that this might been rejected by someone else. I have to be extra careful before accepting the vehicle.

Xerogas | July 27, 2018

OMG, back at VIN 500 people were freaking that that it wasn’t ‘fair’ that someone else got theirs sooner. Everyone wanted VIN #1

My 19xxx was built in June...chill out

LynnM4 | July 27, 2018

241XX and stoked!

erickear | July 27, 2018

Just got assigned 337xx , no idea on build date yet... but won’t be concerned unless I arrive and it looks like sh*t

rpc_in_va | July 27, 2018

I just picked up VIN 269xx on Tuesday. It’s a June 2018 build*, so don’t assume a lower VIN is an old car.

*included the new rear seat with the larger bolsters, too.

lowteck | July 27, 2018

Ordered my Model 3 in late June. How long should I expect to wait for a VIN and is the 3-5 months promised realistic? Sure don't want it to be 2019!

hokiegir1 | July 27, 2018

I find it hilarious that people put in early reservations to get get a car as soon as possible...and are then "concerned" that they have an early build.

CharleyBC | July 27, 2018

@hokiegir1, yeah that is ironic, huh?

djharrington | July 27, 2018

I thought my vin ~1200 was early. Handmade, with love ;)

Revelate | July 27, 2018

Lowtek: if AWD non-P probably, though may be sooner.

RWD you still might get filled out of stock, and the Performance editions are ramping up and will apparently ship before the base AWD.

sfbayevrook | July 27, 2018

VIN 460XX, July 2018 Build, Delivered 7/25, and Flawless - you'll be fine :)

nwfan | July 28, 2018

Thanks for the chuckle. Folks under 1 year in production. It’s an amazing car. @lilbean, right on. Never even cared about VIN on previous cars. My 3 Mar 2018 build. Beautiful car and Drive performance. Back to forgetting about VIN.

ravisundaramam | July 28, 2018

I got 195xx. Back in May. Perfect. Car. Not. a. single. manuf. defect.

theblindtree | July 28, 2018

@hokiegirl, I assume it's the thought process that being first = closest to perfection, which in manufacturing/production is ABSOLUTELY a misnomer. :)

Ryan1296 | July 28, 2018

Mine is 31xxx and door stickers says build date is 6/18

Revelate | July 28, 2018

To be fair to the OP and others, and I've worked in manufacturing lines before, I purchased AWD for my own reasons, and don't mind the delay as I should really go sort out short-term cash flow before picking up a new expense... but when I realized I was nowhere close to the front of the line either in general or in the AWD queue specifically, I did have a passing thought of "at least most of the manufacturing issues will be fixed at that point."

So it's not exactly a foreign concept; however, I just sat back and read the forum instead of posting about it haha.

AZTesla | July 28, 2018

I was just assigned a VIN
49XXX
A July build I presume.

rxlawdude | July 28, 2018

Geez, ours is VIN 138x and is rock solid, with 5,500 of its 11,000 miles on road trips.

ebmcs03 | July 28, 2018

Any vin greater than 20,000 is no longer early. Accept it.

sthatip | July 28, 2018

My VIN is in 52XXX and I am about to take delivery in 2 days. Glad to see the positive response for lower VINs here.

lowteck | July 28, 2018

P? as in ludicrous speed option? I ordered 4WD (late May) the upgraded interior (only one available) I sure hope politics don't get others in line ahead of me especially if that pushes me in to next year.

mike_f | July 28, 2018

4333X is clearly a rejected car that is only now being foisted off on a unsuspecting public. In any case, don't worry and be happy.

lilbean | July 28, 2018

^^ lie

hughbie | July 28, 2018

VIN 398XX - July 2018 build.
