Continuation of this: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6476250/

I fought the impeding traffic ticket and the judge went in my favor. I just had to pay court fees (so, win or lose, I still owe money. FANTASTIC!).

Funny thing, people who were in the room while I pleaded my case had my same sentiment.
I was ticketed for driving... safe.

Got got a nice call out from one of the defendants at the courthouse. "Don't drive too safe! They'll get you again!"

Shit is done. I'm back to work.

driving too safe?

There's a speed limit on the trailer we rented (55mph). I drove below that due to the first accident and the police officer who reported the scene advised just to slow down below that speed liit. And using the winding ass back roads would have been more dangerous than the high way.

So yeah, driving too safe.

I'm glad you won your case.

Well, I'm glad you won. It's just dumb that you have to pay court fees to fight bullshit charges. Gee, it's as if the system is designed so that they win even if they lose.

Nah, that's just tinfoil hat stuff... ;)

Pretty much.

Hey, I had to pay $130 for having an expired license tag, usually a $20 fine. But it was still $130. Why? Because of the court costs I WASN'T going to court for. The city charged me with the court fees anyway!

We can't win. And it's only going to get worse.

the minimum fine for an 18 wheeler is around $200, and they just go up from there >.<

Sitting in the room and listening t the other cases, I could only imagine how worse the fee is. Top penalty I heard before my turn was $500...

You shouldn't have even gone to court and just taken the reckless operation ticket, seems like. ^^

"And it's only going to get worse."

Understatement of the year. Here's one for you: there's a bill floating in the California Senate that would make it so if you're on the "cannot legally own a gun" list (unconstitutional imo...), you cannot renew your car registration or driver's license.

Well, if one is a hardened or repeat offender or criminal, I could actually get behind that. *^^*

Sure, but like most behavioral control regulations, you give them (the government) an inch...

Not gonna stop people from owning a car. Had some douchecake illegal immigrant not have a license or insurance and broadside my dad's Flex by failing to yield. Currently a warrant out for his and his moms arrest.

Yeah, that's true. But what about the case of some kid who does something stupid and ends up with a felony on his record? Maybe he's cleaned up his act and wants to be a lawful citizen. So what, he's screwed out of ever owning a car or having a legit drivers' license? That senate bill is just a can of worms that shouldn't be opened. Criminals will *gasp* break laws. But not every person whom has committed a crime wants to be a career criminal.

Also, I do believe the intent of allowing illegal aliens - excuse me, unauthorized immigrants (stupid PC mind control speak) - to apply for drivers' licenses in CA. So they would drive and get insured. I hope that pans out...

Well, the problem behind that is, HIS car had tags, but no insurance or anything, and I believe you need insurance to get tags.

Also, I don't see how a firearm felony would somehow ban you from having a license/driving a car, but, I'm just an idiot from the internet, what do I know?

Not just firearm felonies. http://felonyrestrictions.com/Owning-a-Gun.php - and the bill they are trying to pass basically says if you cannot own a gun, you cannot renew your license/tags.

Also, the trick he probably pulled: get cheap-o insurance, get renewed, then cancel it.

Yeah, that's what they did, paid for the ability to say they have insurance, and then canceled it.

You are awesome!

Sadly this is a racket in some places, like some speed traps. There was one case where a village in Ohio (New Rome) actually got disincorporated (terminated) due to crap like this.

Oh yeah. Those speed traps are the worst and so...sneaky.

Yeah, I kinda like the under a certain speed tickets, but that shouldn't really qualify for vehicles with trailers. Some might be new at driving with a trailer or something, and you can't help that you need one, but good to hear it worked out.

Always taught us in drivers ed to be a defensive driver, and I always told them the best defense is a good offense, and with that statement, I haven't been pulled over once in 6 years.

It really should be changed. They say take alternative roads but those are probably worse off. Going down to Virginia, there are mountain side roads that I would have freaked out while taking.

Virginia is the most fucked up state I've ever been to, usually drive through it twice a year going up to see family, and shit always goes south. We usually get pulled over for doing 2 over the speed limit or have too dark window tint or some bullshit like that, even though with the plates on the car, we're obviously not from around here.

That's great to hear. Did you guys just pay the other ticket? I really think you could have gotten that one thrown out as an act of God.
  lavenderpandy

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Yeah, I paid the other ticket because we caused damage to a sign in the snow mound. There's no real fighting it. But the accident didn't give me a mark on my record due to the circumstances surrounding it. It's all good.
