Here is the issue, as I see it. Chris doesn't want to withdraw from the world, entirely. Over the years finding a sweetheart, sharing Sonichu with the world, and hanging out with people who share his interests have been fairly large priorities for him. The degree of interest in each of them varies from time to time, but they are real driving principles. So Chris doesn't want to avoid contact entirely. He has learned he should be suspicious of people who want to be friends with him. The level of reluctance and suspicion varies over time a little, but it is always there. There are two filters Chris puts up. One is to prefer interacting with people in the real world using some pre-established mechanism. That is a pretty smart troll filter. If he wanders in to a hobby shop or an LGBT event, he can be more comfortable that the people there aren't there just to troll him. The other filter is general suspicion of people who seek him out. Unfortunately, he is too naive to do much but throw up a blanket of suspicion, and this functions exactly the opposite way he wants. It filters in trolls because the more persistent and manipulative you are the more likely you are to get in.

i think cole should be appointed his power of attorney when barb dies. he seems to have been counting the days until she kicks the bucket for a long time. chris obviously wouldn't take too kindly to people coming into his space and fucking up his shit but having somebody with the capacity to control his finances and deal with his legal issues and debt, who doesn't give a shit about barb or how chris chooses to live his life would be all that's needed to keep him comfortable.
I don't think it's just that. It's that Chris has proven that: He is very gullible if you have the right angle and enough persistence to get past his initial defenses, you would be very surprised at how powerful and alluring the thought of trolling or even mildly pranking Chris or others like him can be, even his would-be online friends can't resist poking him here and there. He has some form of crossover with almost every lolcow or strange community out there (Just off the top of my head: Loveshys, Bronies, crazy LGBT people, Sonic Fans, vidya addicts..etc). In marketing terms, he has mass appeal to many lolcow watcher segments. #2 means that his A-Logs are fucking infinite, because A-Logs almost always see some part of themselves in the cow they hate (usually a part they hate), and #1 means that said A-Logs would be emboldened to try anything with no perceived risk on themselves, kinda like shooting fish in a barrel. We can go on and compare some other cows to him (Len Shaner for example has #1, but not #2), but that would take too long and veer off-topic, so I'll stop sperging here.
I don't think anything short of Chris changing his phone number, emails, and going dark for a couple of years (and not fucking begging for money on the internet) would stop the I HAVE AUTISM PLEASE LAUGH AT ME power trips. Nobody swatted him during any of his live streams, for one thing, which is something that less famous streamers have had to deal with, with some even needing to make special arrangements with their local police ahead of time. But that's even more reason to not go protect Chris, if the Amberlynn board's reason for being tolerable is because it's taking a more hands-off approach. Chris is more famous.
