Toys R Us Says Goodbye With Emotional Message After Closing Its Stores

It's time for everyone to grow up because being a Toys R Us kid is officially a thing of the past.

The beloved toy store shutdown all locations across the U.S. on Friday, June 29, months after it was announced that it would be liquidating the business. The brand decided to acknowledge its 60-plus-year history and loyal customers with a parting message on its website that was, to be honest, just downright sad.

"Thanks to each of you who share your amazing journey to (and through) parenthood with us, and to every grandparent, aunt, uncle, brother and sister who's built a couch-cushion rocket ship, made up a hero adventure, or invented something gooey. Promise us just this one thing: Don't ever grow up. Play on!"

And we're clearly not the only ones feeling emotional over what is truly the end of an era. Toys R Us fans from all over the country are having a hard time with this transition.

Toys R Us announced it would be liquidating its stores in March, after months of struggling with bankruptcy. Since then, there have been attempts to save Toys R Us and its sister store Babies R Us; however, they have all been unsuccessful.

Days before we said goodbye to Toys R Us, Party City announced it would be opening pop-up toy stores called Toy City starting in September, in order to fill the void of, well, actual toy stores. Whether or not that venture will turn into a positive one is yet to be known.
