    One factor complicating southwest negotiations: Opposition-side sources say Russia/Damascus aren’t putting the option of “tahjir” (“evacuation”/expulsion) to northern Syria on the table. With the Jordanian border and the Golan line closed, that means there’s no way out.

    It is mortifying to observe Syrian resignation to their status of the world's undesirables. People who dared to rise up with demands of freedom & equality are left begging for tarps & asylum for only the most vulnerable.

    The empathy toward Syrians & lack of empathy toward Palestinians in Israel is an interesting phenomenon. With Palestinians, Israel is the oppressor & hence Israelis look for reasons to justify the abuse. In Syria, Israel is not to blame so human empathy shines through

    Many Israelis, in particular communities in northern Israel and the occupied Golan, are donating goods through their local councils to be transferred across the fence to Syrians. Previously, Israeli citizens donated millions of dollars to aid orgs assisting Syrians.

    Syrians in Quneitra are asking for protection of the area abutting the fence on the Golan, if Israel is not willing to let them enter, and humanitarian assistance.

    In conversations with Syrians on the fence with the Golan & the border w/ Jordan, many understand that they won't be allowed in. On the fence w/ Jordan, people are asking at least for humanitarian cases or only women & children to be allowed in

    More and more Syrians are reaching out to me & other Israelis they know asking to seek asylum in Israel. This gov't will never allow this. They've abused and detained without trial Christian refugees from non-enemy countries. Taking in Syrians is not an option.

    Syrians fleeing eastern and western Daraa continue to reach the fence along the Golan. Many of the displaced are sleeping without any cover on the ground due to lack of tents, tarps, mattresses. There's also not enough bread, medicine & fuel to power water wells.

    Re-upping this excellent reporting by in light of recent developments in Lebanon. For some returning to Syria, the risks are real & deadly. We have also met people who said relatives were previously arrested upon return & not heard of since.
