    • If a deal can’t be reached, we may be looking at a rebel last stand in a tiny, kilometers-wide strip along the Jordanian border jammed with displaced civilians sheltering in the open.

    • This second contingent says it remains prepared to negotiate but seems to be making demands above GoS’s ceiling. It has chosen, one leader tells me, “an honorable death over a humiliating one.”

Update on the southwest, per my understanding: • Busra al-Sham’s Shabab al-Sunnah has reached a deal with Russian negotiators, which may still be broadened to include other areas. • Another rebel contingent rejects Shabab al-Sunnah’s deal, which they consider “humiliating.”

Indeed. This is absolutely not the case. People want to seek refuge in Israel, many understand it's not an option, so they're asking for protection on the Syrian-controlled side of the fence.

"Aleph" says he doesn't believe that the Syrians from Daraa and Quneitra are interested in seeking refuge in Israel (Syria's long-time enemy). "There's a difference between coming to Israel for medical care and that." I'm not convinced this is the case.

The officer (Lt. Col. "Aleph") says he believes the Syrians know that Israel will not come to save them militarily. "We are always speaking to them and telling them that we are helping them and the citizens, and providing humanitarian aid but we will not interfere," he says.

Head of the IDF's 'Good Neighbor' program, which provides aid to Syria, says some of the humanitarian assistance the army is sending to Syrians is coming from NGOs from Arab nations, but won't say which countries because it would be "complicated" for them.

Translation: Dear Presidents Assad & Putin, kindly deal with the Syrian IDPs in the UN buffer zone through "reconciliation" deals; don't bring in heavy fighting forces. Dear Syrian IDPs, we have strengthened our military presence along the fence. Don't try rushing it.
