Folks should read my follow up tweets. They are just as important as this.

IF folks want to help. Please read up on the UN Declaration of the Rights of Human Rights Defenders of which the United States is a sigantory. It is vital in these times to understand, state protection is an obligation, not a privlege. https://ohchr.org/EN/Issues/SRHRDefenders/Pages/Declaration.aspx …

Other important notes: 1. I have already showed them a birth certificate with my current legal name (which it has been since 1999) and my legal gender as "Female". They claim this is not the "original" because I had previous names. The "original" documents no longer exist.

It is also worth noting: 1. I am a survivor of stalking with felony charges still pending - State Dept. has seen this. 2. I am actively fleeing threats of violence, 3. I have sought official US government protection for #2 and was told to buy a gun and hire private security.

My job is dangerous enough. Being trapped in a country where other people who want to do harm to me for my work as a human rights defender can operately freely and unhindered by State Actors is reason to seek Assylum in another country. I refuse to live in terror and fear.

Have you talked with
@ACLU re: this harrassment? -

Please contact me if corporate support from private sector, for-profit entities would be useful to you.

I’m not even sure who or what can apply enough pressure to the State Department to get me a passport. I plan on leaving, but if I leave without a passport I will be committing a crime. :-/
-
Unless you acquire an enhanced WA state driver’s license and drive, walk, or go by boat over the border to Canada or Mexico. You do not need a passport to travel to either country except by air.
-
Sweden is my final destination. Canada is my human rights pit stop. You DO need a passport to travel to Canada since 2014 actually. An enchanced license gets me to Canada, but it doesn't get me to the EU. And you are missing the big picture, I am entitled to a passport. Period.
-
I hope you make it here to Sweden in good standing. I’m heart broken to read about this miserable state of affairs. I’m nobody, and I don’t see how I can help, but I’m rooting for you.
-
Thank you! I’ve lived and worked in Sweden (Helsingborg, Sollentuna, Södermalm) on an off since 2006. I never thought I’d get “stuck” in the USA and be unable to leave. I’ll be really glad to be home.

I'm going to be working on a passport renewal on Monday following a recent legal transition in WA state myself. This has got me quite spooked but I guess I'll see what types of roadblocks they throw my way and whether there's a common pattern.
-
Happy to talk to you about how to prepare. I think my high profileness is what triggered this reaction. They would have no other way of knowing I ever had another birth name or gender. All of that is under seal, was when I was a minor and before I ever had any gov't issued ID.
-
Great. I've acquired a dr's letter meeting the required format and essentially everything outlined in: https://bit.ly/2zY4PEW . My DL and Social Security have been updated for the correct name/gender. Open to any additional advice of course. And best of luck w/ your next moves.
-
This sounds solid! I think you should be fine with all of those things. I strongly suspect that I am specifically being targeted for my political activity here in Seattle (which has been extensive). Everything was a.O.K in 2000 & 2007 when I got my first passports! Good luck! <3
-
my gf had her first a year ago get stuck in a denial-for-no-reason loop, but we were able to end that by scheduling an in-person meeting.
-
I was in person for this passport the Seattlee office.

I am so sorry Danni you’re enduring this. Unacceptable feels too meek a description.
-
Thank you
@ChelseaClinton I am grateful that I have the support of@PattyMurray and@RepJayapal who are on the case. I and other Trans people are of course concerned about the direction of this administration. Human Rights Defenders should enjoy free travel unhindered by States. -
If this turns out to be more than a blip or technical issue, I’m just really worried about what’s going to happen to people like us, Danni.
In any case, I hope this get sorted out for you soon. I’m sorry this happened to you.

Thank you. I have plans to leave the country soon for a safe third country to lay low and work for a while until things cool off in Seattle for me. Our work is dangerous and few people understand or have lived that. Please keep yourself safe as well. We all need to!
-
Come to Vancouver, you would be very welcome here, safe and close enough to Seattle to continue your work.
-
Yes please. I desprately want to get the fuck out of Seattle for a bit. Each year in June hate crimes in this city skyrocket, given the disorganization and paralysis in the DOJ/FBI - targeted threats of violence and attacks are more severe and acute this year than previous.
-
you need to bring suit immediately.
-
Bring suit against who and with what lawyers and who is paying?!
