With their widespread crackdown on ISIS cells around Sarmin city, Idlib, HTS reiterates their call for ISIS members to repent and hand themselves over. Adding that: "Your nation is in need of you, and the kuffar are the ones you should face your weapons towards, not the Muslims"

While there's a lot of chatter of rebels in Idlib opening up a front vs the regime to ease the pressure on Daraa, the only factions that have announced their readiness are jihadi groups Ansar al-Din, TIP, Hurras al-Din, and HTS.

Funny enough, his 228 page book against democratic elections is still available on his official website. I fully believe though he's evolved in his views over the years and no longer believes what he used to preach some decades ago, that's much is clear.

I'm old enough to remember when Abu Basir al-Tartusi was one of the most vocal salafi jihadi ideologues against voting in elections, with his texts being translated and shared far and wide. Now he says it's an islamic obligation to vote for Erdogan and AKP

Expectedly, al-Maqdisi reacts strongly to the arrests of his friend al-Hunayti, calling HTS security forces/jurists liars, minor tyrannical rulers (tawaghit), defamers of sharia. He rejects that al-Hunayti was an ISIS leader, saying he was under oppression and against extremism.

He was arrested after HTS saw that he was unrepented from his beliefs and suspecting he had a role in the assassinations plaguing Idlib. While arrested he said "I hid thinking the Turkish army came after me and not you". Now he'll be tried in the same courts he helped establish.

He relayed his grievances with ISIS using a pseudonym called أخو ناصح الدولة "Advising Brother to The State", which was shared by his friend al-Maqdisi. While not fully distancing from ISIS nor its lax usage of takfir, his texts revolved on general issues of oppression.

With ISIS, he became the "head of education in wilayat Raqqah" until its defeat and loss of Raqqah (and other areas). Senior HTS leaders say he became disenfranchised of ISIS due to losing his coveted leadership status, while for him it was due to oppression within ISIS.
