It's best to keep a roof over Chris's head, so long as Barb's garbage is taken out. As far as I can tell, both Chris and Bob hates/hated living in the hoard, but Barb keeps Chris in line by threatening to kill herself (which is beyond a fucked up thing to say to your kid regardless of their mental capacities.)
Wishing a house on someone like Chris is not always in their best interests. The mortgage is only a part of the expense. If anything goes wrong with upkeep or maintenance [electrical, plumbing, heating/cooling systems, roofing, etc] that'd be on Chris to handle. Right now he's ok because a few years ago Barb wrangled after-fire repairs. But things entropy. Chris has problems being an adult homeowner. Plus he's lazy. Look at the state of the yard, the trash piles etc. He may be able to pay the monthly utilities right now but his income will take a hit without Barb, and if his Internet income ever dwindled or dried up, he'd be screwed. Best case scenario for someone like Chris would be a government-rent-subsidized apartment for people with a government-recognized disability (his autism). Low rent, no maintenance, 24/7 monitor staff, free Internet, onboard resident service coordinator, food bank in-house visits, free rides to shops and doctors etc, tight safety and security crime-free control, fire prevention maintenance, and community tenant activities. If the tugboat was ever lost or reduced, rent would be adjusted accordingly, even down to zero. All he'd have to do is fill out an application. Rocky, as a retired special ed teacher, would have connections and know people to help with that.
I know why Null will / is helping CWC out . Finding myself in a similar situation many lives ago. Very cool . Not that Null is doing it for this , but the fact that the same place that grifters and NEETs accuse of hurting people has never hurt a soul. It will be really hard to not read both sides as an outsider .
Whether Chris deserves help is pretty subjective. Whether or not people are fags for getting mad at others for helping Chris is pretty objective.
@TaterBot makes some good points. Home ownership has a lot of aspects to it; realistically Chris needs something like a conservatorship. I hope Chris is able to keep the house and stay afloat, but I doubt that it is realistic with his financial situation.
Yeah, Chris is a toy hoarder, but not enough to fill up a whole house with trash. It would be interesting to see Chris become a landlord. If he got someone to help him fix the house up he could probably easily set the bottom half as a rental since it's split level. I guess it depends how well the 2014 renovation has been maintained. And Chris being Chris he wouldn't hesitate to shake someone down for rent money if they're late. On paper keeping the house is the best option, it's just up to Chris and people feeling generous enough to give him sound financial advice.
You can also get a rental property management firm to handle all that shit for you. If Chris settles his debts and put the pains of renting the house in someone who is qualified to do so, he could supplement the tug boat and actually get an apartment, probably even better than section 8. I'm in total agreement with the apartment idea for the same reasons everyone else mentioned; zero maintenance. I'm also still a fan of Null buying 14BC as is, with horde intact, and turning it into The National Christory Museum.
This could net Chris a job as a tour guide for a few months and caretaker for longer (until he burns it down again)
I think the 2014 renovation held up pretty well. I think most of the new hoard is in dry, clean boxes. I think he'd get taken advantage of drug addicts looking for a place to crash. If people ripped Chris off as a landlord, I think he'd whine at people about rent money, but I don't think he'd actually know what steps to take to get it. Nah, without Barb to tell him goofy shit like "keep the dogs indoors, don't let them outside" and "put the cord over the door, it'll be fine", things would be much more stable at 14BC.
This is awesome. Chris is often batshit but I don't dislike him whatsoever. I kind of find him endearing actually, he's not forcing anyone to donate money. He hasn't intentionally scammed anyone and compared to some of the other people we feature he's quite benign. Nice to know someone is looking out for him.
I don't disagree with the choice, but I wish you could have let him sweat it out a little and at least wait till Barb died. It would have been interesting to see how Chris tackled the problem himself. The man needs to learn to fish sooner or later.
Chris gets the benefit of not dying on the street, we get continuing content from him and the lolcows who are emailing him.
Without Chris we wouldn’t have KF. Without KF I’d be bored. That’s enough reason to justify helping Chris.
Call me a pessimist if you must but based on over a decade of documented evidence I don’t really think that’s in the cards.
Looks like the gaggle of I HAVE AUTISM PLEASE LAUGH AT ME just came out in time for summer. This should probably hold me over until I get employed, hopefully.
@Null since you wanna help chris and have a plan in motion, is there some way we can offer assistance ?
