Active shooter reported at the Capital Gazette building in Annapolis, Maryland. Reports indicate that multiple people have been shot and some have been killed. The shooting reportedly happened near the Capital Gazette’s newsroom.
Police are currently on the scene. The ATP has also responded to the scene. The building is located on the 800 block of Bestgate Road.
Early reports indicate that 4 people have been killed and two others have been seriously injured. At this time, there is no description of the suspect.
Twitter user @amesscapgaz, who is reportedly an intern at the Capital Gazette, tweeted “active shooter 888 Bestgate please help us” at 2:43 p.m. EST.
President Trump has been briefed on the shooting and a White House spokeswoman said that “Our thoughts and prayers are with all that are affected.”
The Capital is a daily newspaper published in Annapolis, Maryland since 1884. Its sister newspaper, The Gazette, is one of the oldest newspapers in America, its origins dating back to the early 18th century.
The active shooting at Capital Gazette Building the is just the latest in a string of lockdowns, bomb threats, and shootings that have plagued the United States.
