al-Maqdisi shared English translations of his reaction on the arrests of al-Hunayti, showing his anger against HTS. On the other hand, al-Qa'ida insider Shaybat al-Hukama' praises the arrest saying: "May Allah let us capture al-Baghdadi like our brothers captured al-Hunayti".

Funny enough, his 228 page book against democratic elections is still available on his official website. I fully believe though he's evolved in his views over the years and no longer believes what he used to preach some decades ago, that's much is clear.

I'm old enough to remember when Abu Basir al-Tartusi was one of the most vocal salafi jihadi ideologues against voting in elections, with his texts being translated and shared far and wide. Now he says it's an islamic obligation to vote for Erdogan and AKP

Article by al-Qa'ida aligned "Islamic World Agency" quoting prominent AQ-loyalist Bilal Khuraysat who disclosed he met al-Hunayti where he strongly disassociated himself from ISIS. Bilal adds that the feud is organizational & personal between HTS leader al-Jawlani and al-Hunayti.

Expectedly, al-Maqdisi reacts strongly to the arrests of his friend al-Hunayti, calling HTS security forces/jurists liars, minor tyrannical rulers (tawaghit), defamers of sharia. He rejects that al-Hunayti was an ISIS leader, saying he was under oppression and against extremism.

He was arrested after HTS saw that he was unrepented from his beliefs and suspecting he had a role in the assassinations plaguing Idlib. While arrested he said "I hid thinking the Turkish army came after me and not you". Now he'll be tried in the same courts he helped establish.

He relayed his grievances with ISIS using a pseudonym called أخو ناصح الدولة "Advising Brother to The State", which was shared by his friend al-Maqdisi. While not fully distancing from ISIS nor its lax usage of takfir, his texts revolved on general issues of oppression.

With ISIS, he became the "head of education in wilayat Raqqah" until its defeat and loss of Raqqah (and other areas). Senior HTS leaders say he became disenfranchised of ISIS due to losing his coveted leadership status, while for him it was due to oppression within ISIS.

In Idlib, al-Hunayti established with JN their judicial branch Dar al-Qada', which faced controversy due to dubious verdicts, leading the to tensions with the JN leadership he viewed hindered his "implemention of sharia". He left to ISIS with several JN commanders and leaders.

Reminder on al-Hunayti's importance: He entered Syria in 2014 on the behest of senior Salafi Jihadi ideologue (and close friend) al-Maqdisi, to mediate between JN & ISIS during their clashes in Deir az-Zour. After the mediation failed & JN was defeated, he went with JN to Idlib.

HTS official confirm that the former senior ISIS jurist Sa'd al-Hunayti has been arrested by HTS security forces at his home near al-Dana city, Idlib. Image show they aren't afraid of going after them (even with him being senior ex-JN) with a firm hand.

Again, suspected ISIS cells in Idlib are openly targeting HTS, this time filming a short video with a senior HTS leaders' bodyguard, where he say he's captured by "the State" and advises HTS to repent to Allah. He was later found dead near Khan Shaykhun city.

Prominent al-Qa'ida supporters/members are furious at a HTS news video segment criticizing the updated US designation of HTS, since HTS explicitly say Tandhim Hurras al-Din is AQ in Syria, and not them. AQ profiles view this as basically saying: "Don't attack us, go after them!"

Rebel-held northern Syria is slowly turning into southern Turkey, run by a Turkish official and with bilingual street signs and Turkish taught in schools, reports . Some locals shrug it off, having never been fully convinced by this "borders" idea.

What about the 'lost' tribe of Thamud? The Quran presents them as the successors of Ad. Contextually, they are equated with the ʾaṣḥāb al-Ḥiǧr (Q15:80) ‘dwellers of Al-Hijr’, the Nabataean site of al-Ḥegr/Ḥegrā ~250 mi NW of Medina. Can we find Thamud in the epigraphy?
