So, without seeing the video and going by the headline, it's better than a Model S or Model X?
No, better than a Pontiac G6
That is actually what I was told at delivery, that each and every Tesla is unique. They said I should be happy that these aren’t standard cars that all look the same. They also mentioned later on that mine was mostly hand built and that I would normally pay extra for that ‘benefit’.
What if the deal was you get to do the QA inspection on your car? ;)
Where do I sign up!
EDIT: I would pay 10k extra for that experience!
I actually trust you guys more to build my car than whoever actually built my car.
picking up my 3 next wednesday, i wonder if it was torqued by elon in a tent
picking up my 3 next wednesday, i wonder if it was torqued by elon in a tent
Probably not, I believe he he was torquing machines on the new general assembly line, not specific cars. 😉
What makes you say that. The line in the tent is for hand building at the moment as I was told by someone who was on the line this week.
The tent is a hand build line for dual motor cars only.
If it is totaled, does the insurance pay out and then he has to get back in line for a M3 or what?
Yes, he will have to make a new reservation and wait with everyone else. This also applies for buybacks due to quality or lemon cases.
Did they finally buy your car back?
Not the 3, wish so but since the issues were all fit and finish there isn’t much to go on from what I have been told. They are fixing anything that they can. There isn’t an inch of the car that hasn’t been touched. A lot of time and money has been put into my 3. It isn’t perfect but is a lot better than before. One delivery specialist I ran into at the supercharger said they refer to anyone with a build built pre-March as a beta tester.
Any idea why some have strange looking covers on them?
Edit: typo
Hmm...I was just thinking I want them to just give me my money back, they can have my car!
Why do you want to return it may I ask?
As noted, just had way too many quality issues to list here. I had a post showing some of the major alignment issues back in January but the media started picking it up and quoting me so I deleted that post. It is good to see the transition from major issues being reported to happy customers.
I am getting my car this week after 5 months, but I wouldn’t expect it to take that long for your issue. I still love Tesla service, not yet sure if I like the 3 since I have been driving an S ever since I took delivery.
What issues did yours have? They gave me an S also but it doesn't have auto pilot (which is half of the reason for getting the model 3.)
A lot of quality issues, no known mechanical issues yet (only has 110 miles on the ODO). The last round of fixes was to resolve an incorrectly shaped door and to match the rear bumper. They are as helpful as possible and I am thankful for all of the work that has been done, but would be much easier if the car was delivered in a better condition.
Check for anything that requires body work. This includes reshaping panels or major realignment of body panels. These can take a lot of time and require paint work, etc. Any part of the interior is easy to replace. You are the best judge of what “good enough” is for you. I have seen at least a hundred and have yet to see what I consider a perfect car, but that shouldn’t be expected.
This was pointed out by a number of reviewers. I am surprised they didn’t do something about it yet. I know they changed the window regulators among many other things already, so I expect this will likely change in the near future as well.
why do i care that random internet guy WHO LOVES THE CAPS LOCK is bullish on TSLA? That seems like the opposite of good investing strategy.
Yup, StockTwits is the last place to get investment advice from.
Peace sign sounds like a better story...
They use a lot of Mercedes parts in the S, likely a Mercedes part.
Yeah, I was told the same thing when I tried to wait for quality to improve back in January. They were willing to refund all my money but I would have lost my position in the queue. This frustrated me, even more so after they gave me a car with tons of quality issues. Enjoy your Model X.
So you're saying I should upgrade the range and get it uncorked right? Right?!
Sorry to hear you are having issues with your 3. Hope you get to fully enjoy it soon.
Thanks. It has been 130+ days...I stopped counting. My loaner need to go in for service. It will be interesting to drop the car off with service and request a loaner to replace the loaner that is in for service. Do I have to pick it up after service is done, hmm?
I will never get a pearl white Tesla again. It is very challenging for them to match the paint on my doors and bumper, even the clear coat can change the look of the color. Lots of work and money to make the build quality anywhere close to the other 6 cars I have owned.
Welcome to the “I own a 3 but have been driving a loaner S” club. 2 weeks is nothing by the way.
I think they are moving too fast for service and the overall customer satisfaction to remain healthy.
You guys look like your having way too much fun based on the reflections, as ‘mom?’ stands off to the side with that “what are you doing” look.
It takes 130+ days to rebuild the car (speaking from experience), think positively.
Since a few ppl sent me PM, I might as well give his contact info here : https://www.yelp.com/biz/bemaro-specialty-films-whittier-16
He does a lot of teslas, and I know for a fact he did a few from our members here because I initially found out about him on this board. I know our 3 was his first (early april) but I'm sure he did others after ours (and he did a perfect job at it).
Mods, if that's against the rules please delete, but I'm in no ways associated with the shop, he wouldn't even know who's posting this referral, I just enjoyed his prices, professionalism and attention to detail.
Benjamin (Bemaro Specialty Films) is great. He also comes to San Diego if requested. I have had several cars done by him. He worked all night in my Audi Q7, all custom work with a ton of detail. My S is the blue one in the first google image that shows up (with the red and silver ones). He has done countless 3s.
Walk around the service center and look at 5 or so other Model 3s. That will likely make you happy with yours. I can show you problems with any of the cars. Mine has been in service since Jan and this would’ve been the least of my worries. Let the sun hit it for a few months and you will likely need to realign the bumper anyways. Some items on the car don’t seem to handle temperature changes very well, as confirmed by service.
You have a big paint blob just above the bumper. Looks like base coat or poorly shaped metal/bondo, so I would just leave it. I had several that I had taken care of because they looked like they would break off in time. Repaint was required.
At $250,000, they’ll be hand making pretty much every car. There’s a better chance of that getting done than anything else they’re doing. He’s probably got a specialty team working on design and manufacturing right now.
That isn’t always a good thing. They hand built most of my Model 3 and I would gladly take one built by robots. In fact they are still working on rebuilding it twice over by hand. You can’t assume anything with Tesla. I would definitely stay far away from an early production build of the roadster.
I had a loaner Model X P100D with a 180k MSRP and it was not even close to the quality one would expect for that price. Price does not equal quality by default.
While it is possible the driver did not have their hands on the wheel, the fact that the car didn’t detect hands on the wheel means absolutely nothing. I can have my hands firmly planted on the wheel and still get yelled at by the car for not having them on the wheel.
If I put my deposit down now will I get it before it after anyone gets a $35,000 model 3
I wouldn’t recommend it. I will never buy an early production car again, at least not from Tesla. Life is too short to deal with the headache.
I have seen recent poor behavior from customers directly impact service center employees in a negative way. Service center employees are there to help you and should not be blamed for all of Tesla's issues. Tesla is clearly still growing and has a lot of room for improvement. Communication is not great within Tesla, so you may know more than your service center at times. I promise you that yelling and cursing does nothing to solve the problem. I have some great relationships with employees at the service center. They all know me by name and treat me like someone special each and every time I visit. Why? because I treat them with respect (and I am there a lot).
