Hey guys,
I was thinking of putting a scope on my new OP-14 when I noticed the hinged top cover rail did not seem to be perfectly aligned with the handguard rail. I wanted to give Krebs Custom a call but they're closed for the weekend. I figure I better get the rail aligned first before I mount a scope on it. I tried my best to align the top cover with the handguard rail with a laser, but the alignment screws end up sticking above the rail. It remains to be seen if the screws will interfere with scope mounting as I have yet decided which scope to use. To those guys who have OP-14's, have you had to adjust your top cover rails? Did your adjustment screws end up sticking past the rail itself? This is how mine ended up looking with the rail aligned with the handguard: |

Those two rails were never designed to be on the same plane. The rear rail was "laser-bore-sighted" with a red dot optic before it left our shop. Please give us a call at 847-487-7776 so we can assist you with this. Thanks! Brian |

Thanks for the reply, Brian. I forgot you guys are here at AKfiles.
What if I want to use back up iron sights, wouldn't the rails have to be on the same plane? |

You can still use back up sights with no problems. Get some diopter sights.

noticed the same thing on mine. briefly adjusted mine like you did - screws protruded from the top like yours did. also, when adjusted to be linear with the front rail, the rear rail took on a very slight curve from the force of the screws pulling it down. i readjusted the screws to how they were before. as brian noted, i should've called Krebs first.
as for the iron sight question, i thought that one over as well land have yet to come up with a reason why BUIS would function perfectly normal after being adjusted for elevation, despite the front sight being on a different plane and the rear sight. would love to hear others' opinions on the matter. thx |

Do you guys have a picture with a scope mounted on that rail?
I'd like to see how it looks.

Of course the ACOG is not the right one for the rifle, still deciding between a Browe or "economize" with a PA 4x 7.62 scope... Last edited by beanz2; 07-12-2015 at 09:57 PM. |
