Coming from the airport on the main freeway, I was reminded that even if Muharrem Ince has taken over social media, Erdogan has captured the main highways—I did not see one sign for Ince for over 5 miles. Easily about a hundred for Erdogan.

Turkey’s state-run news agency Anadolu is run by Senol Kazanci, a former adviser to Erdogan Once an autonomous body, Anadolu is now for Erdogan what Pravda is for Putin This is shaping up to be Turkey’s most unfair election, and voting hasn’t even started yet

One positive is an apparent commitment to lifting the state of emergency. But as Erdogan now gets increased powers, it’s not clear whether this will have any effect at all

Statements from govt officials give no real sense of any commitment to such an effort. Pro-market officials such as deputy PM Simsek are vague, Erdogan advisers talk only about a production-based economy & lowering rates. Turkey appears far from ready

Turkey needs to: 1. Stop the bleeding in its economy 2. Find the capital for a comprehensive restructuring program/help companies with dollar debts, respected economist says. Couldn’t agree more

Turkey firmly back in the old days. Erdogan re-alligned himself with hardliners and here we are. What a shame

I’m not sure Erdogan and his circle know how close Turkey is to full-blown crisis Let’s hope this is just electioneering. People are having a hard enough time in Turkey as it is

TV has just played this campaign video 3 times in 10 minutes. And with the theatrical phoenix images and echoes of the statues of Ataturk pointing, the message is clear: the new father of the nation making rise again

I suspect there's much discussion in the presidential palace about recent central bank action. Erdogan's unorthodox advisers, and perhaps the president himself, may be pointing to renewed lira weakness as "proof" that higher rates don't work

Erdogan repeats vow to bring down interest rates Not sure what the Turkish president is trying to do here -- spark another currency selloff before elections? Seems he's also criticising recent rate hikes by the central bank...

Probably the best profile of Erdogan I’ve read. So many half-baked/generic versions out there Top overviews take book-like research, talking with ex-advisers/ministers/confidants. appear to have achieved this. Well worth a read indeed
