The last I read he was well out of the woods and recovering slowly but steadily, as the body do. That said, a lot of the world is like that. Hell, a lot of the US is still fucking like that. Not much has really changed since Matthew Shephard.

The issue is that you're using something that happened somewhere else to make the US look bad. I'm not saying it's perfect but you have to be insane to think it's as bad as places where people are told by their religious doctrine to be killed. Murder is against the law here.
