First post on this Forum and I would like some feedback from other like minded individuals:
So I have a relatively small usage of electricity. I live in Fresno CA, and the biggest use of electricity is in these summer months, when the AC is running, however I tend to be at work during the day. Since 2/2016, my average monthly use is approx 286 kw/month. The solar energy associates I spoke with have been pretty helpful/honest and are offering me systems around 2.8kw to 3kw. I have asked for 3.5 kw as I expect to use more energy in the coming years (Hoping to start a family and own a model 3). I really want to become self-reliant on my energy use, but I don't know if it makes sense to buy a powerwall 2.
I was quoted for approx. 9k for a Powerwall 2 (and 10K for a LG battery pack), but I am wondering if this is the right time to buy a battery. My price for Kw during peak isn't even near $0.40/Kw. Should I save my money? If I buy it later, would I lose the tax credit?
Thank you for the time.
How often does your power go out? If you want to be "self-reliant" then you should get one. Also you still get full tax credit til Dec 31st, 2019. After that the 30% fed gets cut in half to 15%
@Acegreat1- thank you for confirming the info about Fed rebate being cut in half. It’s one of the reasons why I’m thinking of pulling the trigger now, because PW2 won’t be ready for at least 6 months.
In the last 2 years, the power has only gone out approx 4 times. Auto accident hitting a pole was the main reason (2 known times).
