I think essential services, incl health care, should be taken care of by govt/taxpayers (socialist) & other parts of economy should be served by companies competing to serve the people (capitalist). Aka, the view held by most of America.

Sure it shouldn't all be one way. I was defending the socialist side of this. Capitalism isn't inherently evil, it can and does move things forward. Socialism isn't evil either, that was literally my whole point from the start.

Slightly mutually exclusive, but the biggest the service we are doing to our children is not teaching them Basic finance before they graduate high school. Completely agreed. Finance, Civics, Home Economics (cooking, diet and nutrition) are missing from Today's curriculum. Other things though like swimming would be good to see as well. Basic life skills are IMHO too important to not be taught.

You are missing one that supercedes all of those and allows those who have it to be able to learn all of those on their own. Critical thinking and information assessment skills. (1 / 2)

VERY TRUE! I forget that critical thinking isn’t part of the standard curriculum. My mom is a teacher and goes out of her way to put it in her daily lesson plans. Thought fallacies, and Latin root words. Until recently I didn’t realized how lucky I got in the parent department.
