It amazes me that the same people who trashed the Iran deal—a deal literally written with countless verification & compliance measures because the West assumed Iran would try to violate it—are now celebrating North Korea's vague, non-binding "pledge" that recycles 1990s language.

And then ask: why in the world would a teen ever slap a soldier? How could she? "What would you do if soldiers dragged your son out of bed in the middle of the night?" via

  7. U.S. behind-the-scenes interventions & public condemnations have prevented/constrained multiple Israeli human rights abuses, not just those of Palestinian rights. I'm saying this based on a decade+ of experience in Israeli human rights NGOs.

  8. While Obama's team did not help further Palestinian rights, it at least tried to prevent (at times successfully) things from getting worse. Those days are gone. Anyone who cares about human rights should be incredibly concerned about this.

  9. Obama admin officials would speak derisively about Netanyahu behind closed doors, but they didn't do much in their time in office to advance Palestinian rights, for example, by presenting a peace plan, UNSC resolutions or even diplomatic sanctions due to human rights abuses.

  10. The piece, like many others based (in part) on former Obama admin officials presents Trump's policy as a significant break from the past. Current policy is markedly worse, but Obama's realization that Netanyahu doesn't want peace did not translate into policy

  12. Israeli intel is pointing to growing tensions between the hardliner & pragmatic camps in Iran concerning financing of militant groups across Middle East. However, such tensions existed in the past & even harsher sanctions (pre-JCPOA) did not alter Iran's policies on this matter

  15. More anger about the inefficacy of Turkish observation posts in protecting Idlib. From Binnish, Idlib: "Turkey is a guarantor that the [rebel] factions won't retaliate" to regime & Russian attacks. One soldier holds the number of airstrikes on several Idlib towns in recent days.

For those of us with a short memory: On Sep. 19, 2007 Israel adopted a decision to strangle Gaza. Since, it has tweaked the policy but never stopped punishing civilians. Israel is in no small part directly responsible for the situation in Gaza today.

First aid convoy to reach Douma in three months, but without UN staff who were reportedly not allowed to accompany the delivery. The amount of the country served with aid solely from Damascus has increased, but access remains difficult and heavily controlled.
