I hope you and your colleagues are not taking reddit's response to the trailer too seriously. It's unfortunate and I hope it doesn't hinder the motivation for what still looks like a pretty promising game !
In the meantime enjoy the parental leave !
Having recently had a child, this is a bit like someone telling you your baby is ugly. In your heart you know it’s not true. But it hurts all the same.
Honestly, right now, it's a bit like someone is telling you your baby is ugly on the ultrasound. You know it's bullshit and that people will change their mind at dellivery 6 months later.
PS: Yet, I still hope your baby doesn't have a prosthetic hand.
Only when she wears a green glove.
Man I still remember the day that Wake Island demo dropped... So. Many. Hours. Played.
I remember sniping was an actual skill, you have to check where the puffs of dirt kicked up to know how your bullets were dropping as there were no tracer shots. Getting that headshot from the other side of the island was so effing satisfying.
Then the Desert Combat mod came out, holy COW was that ever fun. Finding the hidden .50 cals and other weapons spread out, going prone in a bush in a rut on the side of a mountain while the enemy frantically runs around trying to figure out where you were.
Ahh nostalgia, wrap me in your warm embrace...
BF3/4 battle pickups were straight up copies of Desert Combat. I was huge into that modding scene back then, I actually dug up some old DC screenshots for the design doc on battle pickups.
does the ejection take them high enough to survive the descent?
Yes. These are Zero Zero seats. They are designed to work at Zero Altitude and Zero Speed.
NATO adopted the 556 round as a replacement for the 762 NATO. They weren’t going to adopt a Russian round. The Russian Ak47 out gunned the M14. The M16 and the 556 round was invented to counter that threat, and ultimately the Russians went with a similar 554 round.
The 5.56 round has a very small diameter and moves very fast. The damage a 5.56 does is less than a 7.62 round fired from an AK. I think the primary reason the US switched to 5.56 was because of weight. Switching to that round allowed soldiers to carry twice as many rounds as the Russians. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if the higher likelihood of wounding a target wasn't taken into account when making the switch. A wounded soldier in war will take up far more resources than a dead soldier. So there's clear incentive to wound as many enemies as possible instead of killing them.
Wrong 7.62 rounds. 7.62x51 NATO is heavy, but 7.62x39 Russian is similar to our 5.56mm rounds. Now of course there’s also 7.62x54R, which the Russians use as well. But all of the Russian rounds predate the NATO rounds significantly.
The 5.56 round and the 7.62x39 round are both designed to penetrate body armor and still maintain lethality. One of the big reasons the 5.56 round doesn’t seem as effective recently is actually the lack of body armor on combatants. The round tends to punch right through them, which is why the US military is looking for new intermediate cartridges and has also reintroduced 7.62 nato rounds for both their killing power and their range.
Linux is funded by benefactors, benefactors who use the kernel.
Also, the Linux Foundation is made up of members with some seriously deep pockets. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_Foundation
I don't think Mozilla could get those benefactors, because they aren't nearly as important.
You expect me to believe one of them is really named Andy Updegrove? Next you’ll be telling me April Dondastreet is also a member.
Solid job. Well done!
I would kill for a .50 AE Glock though . . .
Oh god my wrist hurts just thinking about it.
This marching band group plays during timeouts and sometimes during halftime at Sacramento Kings basketball games (you can see the Kings logo all over the band) and that officer is working security for the game. He is fairly well known around the stadium by the regulars and I've seen him twirling his baton for younger kids a couple of times. Seems like a pretty cool guy - he's been working security there as long as I can remember and I've been going to games since nineteen ninety eight when the undertaker threw mankind off hеll in a cell, and plummeted sixteen feet through an announcer's table.
Do you patreon? I’ve paid good money for things far less entertaining.
I personally am glad we can't toss dynamite/limpets very far, even though it causes me to blow myself up sometimes. Imagine how much worse the spam would be if you could. You can already throw an A/T grenade a half mile, that should be enough.
I think a hold down timer/charging wheel on the grenade button would be pretty handy though, so you could toss it just a little ways for situations just like this, or wind it up for the hail Mary grenade throw.
Look up or down. If you look down you basically just drop the grenade. Looking up throws it harder.
Individual concerns about specific influencers would be better directed at our community managers. It’s not my area of expertise, sorry.
The fact that you think that's a good thing is kind of depressing really. "everyday normal gamers", what's wrong with veterans of the franchise?
We also take in battlefield veterans to interview about features and do playtesting. With millions of players you need to get a good broad perspective. You ask influencers. You ask veterans. You ask people who have never played shooters. You ask people who play shooters but not bf. You ask people who quit playing bf...
And you ask Patrick Söderlund. Of course his opinion is most important. 😉 /s
Thanks for the kind words, I didn’t have anything to do with BF2, I started just after it’s release. But everything you say about Lars is correct.
Look, I'm busy raising my daughter...
Now the other 300 or so folks... They're working on it. It's gonna be so crazy that I get to see a trailer on the public release for the first time in 13 years.
I'm still a bloody fanboy.
And when he uses flares the AA will stop.
Because dropping the flares kills the spotting.
One of the really interesting aspects of a Camera vs Eyes, is that our eyes and our brain auto stabilize an image. We already have a really difficulty time balancing between camera shake during explosive events and just pure gameplay. Imagine what would happen if we had GoPro level camera shake during running...
I think I'd be a sick in my mouth a bit. And still I love the idea.
I’ve definitely seen a BF trailer/ad during previews here in Stockholm. Chills.
You replied to the wrong person for that.
Still correct.
Looks like a cheapo late-war T-34/85 by the lack of any additional gear on it. The T-34/85 had weld seams all along its turret roof armour, so it could be that it just popped off from an ammo explosion (which not taking other routes due to the quickness of the blast)?
https://www.flickr.com/photos/58451159@N00/33186381216/in/album-72157677534054893/ Here's another T34 from the same album, with the top of the turret clearly blown off.
First kid? Best journey you'll ever go on.
Yep. Loving it.
The bf3 tint was unique, but I really wish it couldve be easily turned off in settings. Bf3 really went all out with the post processing back in 2011 but some aspects wont be missed. Also why was bf4 more normalish colored, its not like any less modern shooters were out around then.
BF3 was re-establishing the franchise on consoles and needed to stand out, BF4 was a direct sequel to BF3, and I think it needed to stand out less. There's still a significant amount of post processing on BF4, it just went in another direction. As to why, I guess you'd need to ask the art director about that one. :P
That link is amazing. Who knew there was such a market for models of crabs re-imagined as tanks? I thought these were things people had scratch-built themselves, I had no idea you could buy these.
We really did something weird to the Japanese in 1945.
Thanks Obama MacArthur.
pretty much, although no top attack mode.
Didn’t TOW only get top attack mode in a midlife upgrade?
Does anyone else notice what appears to be a L85A2 in the guys hands to the right with the goggles and blue face paint?
It's a Thompson: https://pasteboard.co/Hn7FIwH.png
Looks to me like the parts of the weapon that are animated (magazine) are all at the "root" of the weapon, which is in the stock. So yeah, the magazine is not in the right place.
