German Empire

The German Empire is the name used in English for the state created in 1871 after the unification of Northern Germany and the proclamation of the Prussian King Wilhelm I as German Emperor. It ended with the German Revolution of 1918–19 and the creation of the Weimar Republic.
It is sometimes referred to as the Second Reich as discussed in the Germany article.
The most important bordering states were the Russian Empire in the east, the France in the west, and Austria-Hungary in the south.
