If they had come to you as a paying client, would you represent them? Do you get to pick and choose? If it’s a firm that’s delegating cases to counsel, could a client like this fall on you due to your furry expertise?
-
I do get to pick and choose. I make decisions on representation based on a variety of factors, some legal and some practical, which are really too complex to explain on Twitter. But you just gave me an idea for a post.
-
As the primary litigator in my office, I have pretty much complete discretion over what clients I do and don’t take these days.
-
This is a relief, I’d wager! :)
-
It’s a condition I insisted on.

Even the dregs of humanity deserve their rights & day in court. Yelling at the lawyer is stupid. Consider if you run off the lawyers, what happens when someone runs your lawyer off b/c you don't deserve one?

My first client was a very devilish individual. I don't do criminal law, so I think its fair for me to say that I am very very glad that he is in jail now and I hope he never gets out.

I hope you can get to the point where you don't have to resort to that any more.
