That person would have most likely done the same if they were in your position too. Being on TV isn’t really worth letting yourself get treated wrong.

I remember the breaking point being when Tatsu picked me up at the airport and asked me how my trip to Tokyo went, and in the time we walked from arrivals to the airport restaurant I was already crying because I was so tired and starving because I didn't get to eat hahaha.
-
For one shoot our call time was 3am, and we had to go out in the ocean and catch squid. That part was fun, but we didn't sleep for the rest of the day, and were told that we could join the cooking segment at 5pm and eat the squid we caught--then we were told we couldn't.
-
So me and this other guy were basically on standby and were told we could join the shoot and bring out the cooked squid to the "higher seniority" cast and let them eat, and then we could eat IF there was anything left over *after* the shoot. But then I had to catch my flight.

PLUS I belonged to one of the biggest talent agencies in Japan, and TV doesn't pay well to begin with, but my agency took 50% of what I earned, and then I got taxed, so I'd always walk away with less than 50% of what they were paying me. BUT I hear for some newbs it's 30/70.
-
Anyway it just wasn't worth it *for me*. It wasn't my dream to begin with and I wasn't about to put in the time and effort to climb that seniority ladder. Too much effort, too little payoff. Having my own outlet on YouTube was good enough for me ultimately. :))
-
That seems like the best choice. I would’ve been so hangry haha. I actually can’t really go all day without eating like that or I’ll feel like I’m going to pass out. It doesn’t seem like it would be worth it to me either. The hours and the very little pay off just aren’t worth it
-
I would’ve left as well, especially knowing you already had an outlet. It’s not your dream or something you needed so why stick around somewhere you’re unhappy? Life is to short to not focus on the things you love doing!

That kind of thinking makes my head spin. “You should just be happy and suck all abuse up for 15 minutes of fame.” Good for you for having standards, Micaela. The world needs more of that!

I really wonder sometimes if people genuinely don’t understand that the only reason “exposure” is useful is if it will eventually make you money people watching you on TV != you making any money or having a good life

Having standards and self-worth = entitlement?

I read something once that basically said if these people are coming to you to give you "exposure," it's actually them who need you to give them exposure and it actually makes a lot of sense when you think about it that way

Ugh. You can't eat "exposure." Plus your time isn't free.
