The tachikawa area! Shinjuku! Well the kabukicho area is. Generelly. Maybe okay as tourist but good people and bad people are in that area.
Hey guys and girls this is cathy cat. We are gonna ask japanese people today about dangerous areas here in tokyo. And where you should be a little bit more careful when you're walking around so let's go and ask japanese! In tokyo are there areas that are a bit dangerous or where you should be careful in the evenings? Can you tell me some? Shinjuku! Shinjuku and its ni-chome area.
And akihabara how about that? - akihabara isn't so bad. But harajuku. Harajuku is dangerous. Harajuku? - yeah the side streets. The side streets are fine but takeshita street is dangerous.
I wonder that it might be dangerous. People are used to foreign tourists and will try to deceive them of their money. What's so dangerous in harajuku in your opinion? There are foreigners that are used to tourists coming to harajuku.
So they will use english to deceive them, because the tourists don't know better. They rip people off. The things that japanese tourists experience abroad can happen to tourists who come here as well, I think.
The deeper parts of shinjuku's kabukicho. I think the front area is lively with people but. The deeper and deeper you go into it. That's an area I would avoid. Apart from that I think tokyo is quite safe.
In japan, no matter where you go, there is a lot of police. That's why I think most places are safe. I haven't felt much that a certain area is bad.
I think if you as tourists go to an area and get the feeling that something is a bit fishy, then you should not go there.
I think that's the smart choice. But there are barely any such areas. Adachi-ku is dangerous. Isn't that a common prejudice? No, seriously! That area is bad. Why adachi? There are many gang members. But if it's in tokyo then.
Probably tachikawa. Tachikawa. I see. It generally just not as save. You think so? There aren't that many resident in that area. It's like the kids of the countryside came to hang out in the city and somehow the area became less safe.
I think there are many smaller streets and back alleys. The tachikawa area isn't really known for its safety. Furthermore the kabukicho, ikebukuro. The area in ikebukuro where all those adult shops are. And you will get pulled into shops.
And furthermore we have. The suburb areas. Areas that are further out like kanagawa. And chiba have a bad reputation. Let's be a bit more careful there. The tachikawa area! - and shinjuku oh yeah shinjuku.
Why is tachikawa seen as dangerous? In the darker areas there are all kinds of people. Dangerous people. So in those areas you have to be careful. Why shinjuku then? Shinjuku is dangerous in the evenings.
The evenings are generally bad. The back alleys are. So no place in particular in shinjuku but just generally be careful there? Thin streets like these and back alleys people will try to get you into their shops.
Shinjuku's kabukicho area. They try to drag customers into shady places. So if you go along with strangers, it's kind of dangerous, I think.
Well the kabukicho area is. Generelly. Maybe okay as tourist it's alright but. There are many barkers. There are some good people but also some bad people.
I think the kabukicho area is a bit dangerous. Adachi area possibly. People say it's not a safe area. What's in adachi? - what's in adachi? Well what do we have there? Well adachi.
The problem. I wonder. I don't know either. I just heard that it is not safe. There are many young people who loiter around convenience stores at night and such in adachi.
Which area do you think is the safest in tokyo? On ginza there are many established places. You don't really hear that it has a bad reputation.
It seems to be the part of the city with all the rich people. Those were all questions. Thank you. Shinjuku and tachikawa were the top two named for dangerous places in the area of tokyo.
Shinjuku because there is the kabukicho, which is an entertainment area that has lots of host bars, hostess bars and kind of like adult places and adult bars, shops and such.
And kyakuhiki (touting) is when people try to get customers to come into their shop. And that's something I would be careful about if you go to shinjuku and you are hanging around in that area.
There are normal places as well but there are a couple of dodgy places so if you have the feeling " this place might be a little bit dodgy" don't go in, and you might save yourself a lot of trouble.
Same thing for tachikawa, again its an area that is not quite safe. There seem to be quite a lot of gangs and drug dealers and such. Which is happening in tokyo.
So even some people say japan is very safe and it might be a lot safer than many other countries, it is still not 100% safe, we are all humans, we are all good and bad.
You just need to be generally careful especially if you are a girl and you are alone some of my friends said they feel comfortable walking alone, some say rather not. You never know.
Always be careful, always be on the safe side, and don't risk anything no matter if people tell you how safe it is you know. Watch out for yourself. That's what I generally say.
But generally there is lots of police on the streets in japan so it might be safer than maybe your country. So how about you? Which area in your country is kind of a little bit dodgy? Or maybe you have been to tokyo and there was an area that wasn't quite safe.
Let us know. Looking forward to reading your comments. Thank you very much for watching. If you have any more ideas about safety in tokyo or japan, let us know. Maybe we can make a new video out of it.
